Icotec is a leading company in the medical technology industry, specializing in the development and production of innovative, high-strength implants made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic. These high-tech implants are essential for the surgical treatment of spinal tumor diseases and represent a significant advancement in patient care.

Challenges of an ERP implementation in a GMP-regulated environment

The goal was to replace the existing systems with an integrated, scalable, and GMP-compliant validated ERP system.

The complexity of production planning, purchasing, sales, and financial management required comprehensive support, both process-wise and technically. An important focus was on replacing the previous financial system and integrating financial accounting.

Ensuring reliable live operation of the ERP system was of the highest priority to support the company's critical business processes.

Our solution: Validated ERP for a medical technology manufacturer

Our team at Sycor addressed these challenges and implemented a tailored solution.

In addition to the standardized implementation of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, special emphasis was placed on production, quality assurance, and warehouse processes. As part of the warehouse processes, goods are packed and labeled according to the requirements of CE marking for medical devices. Initially, label designs were maintained directly within Dynamics AX 2012. Due to the increasing number of different labels, NiceLabel software was introduced as part of customer service.

The documentation of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) relevant processes for the validation of the ERP system was significantly supported by Sycor. Strict and comprehensive documentation of the processes to be validated, including related requirements, functional specifications, and test cases.

Later in the project, in addition to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the US subsidiary was also added, enabling the representation of multinational and intercompany processes within a single ERP system.

We provided managed services for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and implemented additional customizations for AX to optimize icotec's core processes. Our support covered all levels of the ERP system to ensure seamless integration and trouble-free operation.

The project was characterized by direct and very open communication between icotec and Sycor. This fostered a strong "we" feeling that went beyond the usual client-service provider relationship. Close collaboration and joint commitment to success were the key components that made this project a highlight of our work.
