Interroll presents innovative technologies for food-safe automation at IFFA 2025 in Frankfurt. The focus is on the Special Hygienic Conveyor (SHC), a modular conveyor platform made of stainless steel.

With the SHC, Interroll offers a conveying solution operating within a temperature range of -5 to 40 degrees Celsius, specifically designed for packaged foods or E2 standard crates, addressing the industry's key challenges: efficiency, sustainability, hygiene, reliability, and safety. The modular stainless steel conveyor platform is easy to integrate, flexibly configurable, and for the first time enables a zero-pressure accumulation (ZPA) conveying in the food sector – a breakthrough for the industry. This technology ensures fast, contactless transport of products, optimizes material flow, simplifies cleaning, and minimizes wear and maintenance.

Contactless roller conveyor technology – certified for cleanroom applications

The SHC roller conveyor meets very high hygiene standards and is certified according to ISO 4 for cleanrooms. It significantly undercuts permissible particle limits, thereby minimizing the risk of contamination of sensitive goods by microplastic particles.

Sustainability through reduced water consumption and plastic waste

The stainless steel construction is specially optimized for food applications: it features a reduced hole pattern, no undercuts, and beveled, rounded guides that allow quick drainage of cleaning liquids. Seals prevent water ingress into the rollers, eliminating the need for elaborate hygiene shields and enabling faster, more efficient cleaning processes. This helps food producers achieve their environmental goals and reduce operating costs. The SHC roller conveyor is designed for maximum safety: integrated safety features such as finger protection and covers, no protruding parts, and quiet operation under 70 dB(A) create a safe working environment.

Flexible integration and digital networking

The SHC platform is designed as a plug-and-play system and can be easily connected to existing conveyor systems with a special transition module. “This makes the conveyor platform an ideal solution not only for new installations but also for modernization projects for transporting packaged foods. Additionally, the same basic dimensions allow for seamless combined solutions with the Modular Conveyor Platform (MCP) and the Special Hygienic Conveyor (SHC),” explains Dr. Kronholz.

Interroll’s MultiControl system supports all common industrial protocols (PROFIBUS, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT) and enables flexible, precise control of product flow – even decentralized, without programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The direct integration of sensors and drives into the fieldbus level facilitates networking in Industry 4.0 environments and allows for precise positioning of goods – an essential prerequisite for automated weighing systems and robotics.

With the Interroll Layouter, system integrators can virtually plan, simulate, and optimize complete conveyor systems. This simplifies project execution, improves communication with end customers, and ensures smooth installation and commissioning.

Proven technology used by leading companies worldwide

Interroll has been making a significant contribution for years to improving food safety and supply as an independent technology leader with a global presence. For example, the company's modern, compact drum motors that meet the highest hygiene standards are used by leading companies in the food industry worldwide. Examples include Nestlé and Danish Crown, as well as renowned system integrators like Marel and Krones. They ensure that automated material flow solutions operate not only with maximum efficiency and energy savings but also meet the highest hygiene standards – as specified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Union (EU), and the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG). Today, complete SHC conveying solutions are also in use across Europe for demanding food processors, in countries such as Belgium, Denmark, France, and Spain.

Experience Interroll at IFFA 2025

Visit Interroll from May 3 to 8, 2025, at IFFA in Frankfurt, Hall 9.0, Stand E88, and discover the Special Hygienic Conveyor as well as other innovative solutions such as hygienic drum motors for safe, efficient, and sustainable food processing. IFFA is the world’s leading trade fair for innovations in meat and protein processing and provides the perfect platform to familiarize yourself with the latest technologies and industry trends.

“With the Special Hygienic Conveyor, we are bringing the efficiency of high-performance parcel logistics into food processing for the first time. At IFFA 2025, we will demonstrate how modern automation makes food production more sustainable and future-proof,” emphasizes Dr. Kronholz.
