Pharmabau professionals discussed "Keep it simple" in Frankfurt

More than 60 participants were welcomed by Ralf Gengenbach at the 7th symposium of the association Interested Community Pharmabau 3000 e. V. (VIP 3000) in the premises of the Frankfurt branch of Imtech Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG. Nine speakers examined the conference theme "Keep it simple" from various perspectives (see separate report). reinraum-online spoke with VIP 3000 chairman Gengenbach about the event.

reinraum-online: Mr. Gengenbach, can pharmacy construction really be simple given the constantly increasing demands for hygiene and quality?

Gengenbach: The technology itself cannot be simple. However, what we can work on are the processes. It is especially important to consider the interfaces carefully from the outset and to bring all parties together. When this is neglected, extensive corrections are usually necessary afterward.

Elsewhere in the world, work is also done very simply. You showed a self-taken photo from a Chinese cold storage room, where a temperature sensor was attached to the wall with tape. Is this kind of "make it simple" approach desirable?

No, certainly not. Nonetheless, we have to accept that such practices are common in many parts of the world. Often, GMP guidelines do not explicitly prohibit such solutions.

At the symposium, nine lectures highlighted trends in pharmacy construction. Where is the journey headed?

As mentioned, project management can be made much simpler. Another very central topic for me is to focus more on people. Because it is people who work in the buildings we plan and build, people whose performance is extremely important. We must not forget that. Even in the fight for the best minds, working conditions are crucial. Our symposium offered many opportunities to think about new ways. Many participants explicitly thanked for the high-quality lectures. I personally also learned a lot.

VIP 3000 has been around for almost 20 years – and has only 36 members. Is this the size of the association you aim for?

We do want to grow a bit more, but VIP 3000 should never become a mass organization. Our goal is intensive exchange among members. We learn from each other and support one another. That only works if you know each other.

Who can become a member?

Basically, all companies active in pharmacy construction and related fields. It is important to us that our members come from reputable companies in the industry and that they are willing to give and take. Therefore, membership is not just about filling out an application; you have to apply and introduce yourself at least once at a general meeting.

When is the next VIP 3000 symposium?

Every two years, on a regular basis.

Mr. Gengenbach, thank you for this interview.
