The item Industrial Engineering GmbH is launching the item Glossary online for the summer semester 2014 as a unique working tool for students of mechanical engineering. It is a specialized dictionary for mechanical engineering plus a glossary. The glossary provides concise explanations of important technical terms, sometimes accompanied by labeled graphics. All content is available in English and German.

The item Glossary currently includes over 26,000 dictionary entries, approximately 600 glossary entries related to technical terms from mechanical engineering. It contains important technical terms from the core subjects of general mechanical engineering studies, including basics of electrical engineering and mathematics. The professional supervision of the glossary entries has been undertaken by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinrich Kern, TU Ilmenau.

The content can be accessed either through full-text search or alphabetically via an index. Additionally, it shows how the technical term can be used in combination with thematically related terms.

Access to this reference work is possible via a web browser or through an app. The apps are available as free downloads for iOS or Android versions.

The item Glossary aims to accompany students throughout their education. The combination of a specialized dictionary, glossary, and illustrative graphics makes it a reliable guide when working with foreign-language technical texts.

Through an interactive feature, users can register and contribute to expanding the glossary and dictionary entries themselves.

To further increase the usefulness of the item Glossary and make it accessible to more users, translations into Spanish and Chinese are planned.
