CAT GmbH qualifies the stem cell laboratory of the University Hospital Tübingen

Sometimes cleanrooms help save lives. For example, in the stem cell laboratory of the University Hospital Tübingen, stem cell preparations are processed for transplants. After extensive renovations throughout the entire laboratory area by the hospital, CAT Clean Air Technology GmbH has now qualified these cleanrooms and equipped the sluice area with a high-performance recirculation system. The reason for the elaborate renovation of the stem cell and immunology laboratory was to optimize access to the two GMP Class B cleanrooms.

CAT GmbH has been responsible for the regular requalification of the GMP area within the Joint Stem Cell and Immunology Laboratory for years and was also involved as an advisory during the now completed construction work from a GMP perspective. After the renovation, it was necessary to ensure that this highly sensitive cleanroom area again complies with the guidelines of the GMP guideline and ISO standard 14644. To achieve the specified air cleanliness class in the sluice area as well, planning and installation of a recirculation unit was also necessary.

The Joint Stem Cell and Immunology Laboratory of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and the Medical Clinic II, by the way, not only supplies the University Hospital Tübingen with stem cell transplants or preparations for cellular immunotherapy – the preparations are sent to hospitals around the world. In the three cleanrooms (2 Class B cleanrooms each with 2 Class A workbenches and an open A-area, as well as a Class C cleanroom), various cells are processed, cultivated if necessary, and even frozen for later use (cryopreserved). For this purpose, the cell preparations are stored in tanks with liquid nitrogen at -190 degrees Celsius and thawed again at a later time.
