The 50 exceeded – motan-colortronic supplies additional dosing and mixing systems to Aero Pump

In October 2012, a series of new ULTRABLEND 95 batch dosing and mixing systems were installed at Aero Pump GmbH, based in Hochheim, Hesse. This increased the number of gravimetric high-precision devices at Aero Pump to over 50 systems, which consequently corresponds to a complete equipment of the injection molding machines produced there.

Aero Pump – an internationally successful family business founded in 1976 – is one of the leading manufacturers of pharmaceutical application systems. "An innovative product marks the beginning of our company history. In 1976, we developed our first pump system without propellant," explained founder Egon Schwab about the success of this brand (see www.aeropump.de). The company supplies more than 140 million units of dosing and atomizing pumps annually worldwide for nasal, throat, and ear sprays as well as eye drop dispensers.

The claim to meet the highest quality standards was accompanied by the demand for uncompromising dosing accuracy, ease of operation, and full reproducibility at the same time. These premises were at the forefront in 2001 during negotiations on the fully computer-controlled raw material supply with source-destination assignment and the first tranche of ULTRABLEND peripheral devices. The excellent performance parameters of these gravimetric batch dosing and mixing systems have significantly contributed to Aero Pump installing 48 devices by 2011 and ordering further systems from motan-colortronic in mid-2012.

The proven ULTRABLEND UB 95 systems made of electropolished stainless steel, used in the pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors, are employed for gravimetric dosing and mixing of four plastic components – new and regrind materials of PE, PP, and POM, as well as masterbatch. They are particularly suitable for applications with frequent material changes. The dosing slide and dosing funnel form a unit, so no material can be spilled during disassembly. The mixing vessel is hemispherical, thus preventing dead zones. The maximum throughput for two components is 260 kg per hour. Regarding dosing accuracy, very narrow tolerance ranges are maintained, which are essential for pharmaceutical primary packaging.
The ULTRABLEND peripheral devices utilize the microprocessor control "UB Touch". The 5.7" LCD color display offers menu-driven operation via the "Touch" panel. The computer-controlled communication with the motan-colortronic peripheral devices – connected via network to the control station – takes place in real time and with clear text of all operating states. The system includes a database with more than 200 recipes.

"The quality and performance of the material flow have a perceptible impact on the quality and function of our dosing and atomizing pumps as well as their economical production according to GMP standards (Good Manufacturing Practice). With the new ULTRABLEND 95 dosing and mixing systems, we have achieved the improvements in plastics processing that we aimed for," confirms Stefan Hüsser, operations manager at Aero Pump.
