New, motorless drives from SMC make custom constructions unnecessary

Since almost every transportation task in industrial plants can be solved with electric drives, SMC now offers its proven drives from the LEFS, LEFB, LEJS, and LEY(G) series without their own motors. Users can continue to use their preferred or existing motors and controllers and connect them with the suitable standard products from SMC. The new drives are compatible with motors from 14 renowned manufacturers. So, if you need high maximum speed, precise positioning, high payload, long stroke, cleanroom suitability, or drives for regulated areas such as the food and pharmaceutical industries in the future, you can continue to use your motor and control technology and any spare parts you have, access the broad standard range from SMC, and avoid expensive custom solutions.

Compatible with 14 manufacturers

The new, motorless electric drives of the LEFS, LEFB, LEJS, and LEY(G) series can be combined with a variety of different stepper and servo motors. They are compatible with the equivalent 100, 200, and 400 watt motors from currently 14 manufacturers:

Each SMC drive series offers particular strengths that allow users to solve their tasks specifically.

Series LEF: high payload or high speed

The drives of the LEFS series are equipped with ball screw drives and can handle high horizontal payloads of up to 85 kg. With a maximum speed of 1500 mm/s, repeat positioning accuracies of ± 0.02 mm are achievable. The standard program includes sizes 25/32/40 with strokes between 50 and 1200 mm. Cleanroom-compatible versions are available if needed.

The drives of the LEFB series are belt-driven. Their strengths lie in high speeds of up to 3,000 mm/s and an extremely high acceleration of 20,000 mm/s², enabling very fast cycle times. Horizontal loads up to 20 kg can be moved with a repeat position accuracy of ± 0.04 mm. With a stroke of up to 3000 mm, the LEFB series allows for overcoming very long distances. Additionally, they feature a compact design and very easy assembly.

Series LEY: Round stainless steel design for the harshest conditions

The most noticeable feature of the new LEY drives is their round housing made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The rust-proof chrome-nickel steel of the housing corresponds to the quality SUS 304 (German material number 1.4301; DIN designation X5Cr¬Ni18-10). The interior is fully splash-proof. The protection class is IP 65. The LEY series drives can withstand even aggressive cleaning agents, so dirt or germs have no chance to form nests. They are therefore ideally suited for use in regulated areas such as the food and beverage industry or the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The standard range of the motorless LEY drives includes:

- Series LEY: sizes 25/32/63, strokes 30 to 800 mm
- Series LEYG: version with guide rod for even greater stability in sizes 25/32, strokes 30 to 300 mm.

Series LEJ: high stiffness & positioning accuracy

The electric drives of the LEJ series are equipped with a double linear guide. This absorbs eccentric loads and reduces possible deviations. In the precision version LEJSH, positioning accuracies of ± 0.01 millimeters are possible. The models of the LEJS40/63 type are designed for particularly high spindle pitches. They reach maximum speeds of up to 1,800 mm/s. Models with the prefix 11 are suitable for use in ISO class 4 cleanrooms. Due to the closely spaced stroke variants of this series, almost any task can be solved within the standard program. Their high rigidity makes them suitable for all types of transfer and assembly applications in industrial plants. A low housing cross-section with a low center of gravity and an extremely compact design also characterize them. The motorless electric drives of the LEJS series impress with high stiffness and ball screw drives in sizes 40/63, strokes from 200 to 1500 mm.
