Greiwing: Expansion of food logistics

The Greiwing logistics for you GmbH will expand its food division and plans to invest around twelve million euros over the next five years. The company announced that it intends to acquire new vehicles and equipment. Additionally, four locations will be expanded where free-flowing foods can be processed under cleanroom conditions. The goal is to increase the share of food logistics in total revenue from the current 8.5 percent to 20 percent. "In terms of transport and handling of free-flowing goods, we have enjoyed an excellent reputation in the industry for a long time. We want to achieve the same in food logistics," says Klaus Beckonert, managing director of the logistics service provider based in Greven, Westphalia.

To achieve this, the company has launched a twelve million euro investment plan. The focus, according to Greiwing, is on the four locations equipped with cleanroom technology in Duisburg, Leipheim, Wesel, and Worms. Both infrastructure and buildings, as well as building technology, will be expanded there. According to Greiwing's CEO, food logistics is expected to grow disproportionately compared to the company's other divisions — measured against the total revenue, from the current 8.5 percent to 20 percent in the future. The range of services that the Greven-based logistics provider plans to offer at its four cleanroom locations includes the transport of free-flowing foods, storage of loose foods in high silos and their silaging, as well as repackaging and filling under cleanroom conditions. These are consistently climate-controlled rooms in which filtered air with regulated humidity circulates under slight positive pressure. This minimizes the concentration of airborne particles and prevents contamination.

"We are rolling up our sleeves now. I am very confident that we will achieve our goal," says Beckonert. The groundwork has certainly been laid: among other things, sales have been reorganized and strengthened personnel-wise. Furthermore, all necessary certificates, such as the authorization as a food company under the so-called EU Hygiene Package, are already in place.
