– Strengthening research for future data technology and data storage as well as new energy storage materials
– 70 million investment with a site area of 12,500 m² and a cleanroom covering 700 m²
– Expansion into four research areas and creation of new positions for up to 300 staff members

The Max Planck Institute's new research building was officially opened to expand and strengthen cutting-edge research at the institute in Halle. Dr. Reiner Haseloff, Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt, Egbert Geier, Mayor of the City of Halle (Saale), Alfred Funk, Chancellor of Martin Luther University, and Prof. Patrick Cramer, President of the Max Planck Society, gave welcoming speeches.

The new building will expand the institute from three to four research departments and will provide space for up to 300 employees. The large clean room with an area of 700m2 provides the scientists with the best conditions for research in the field of data technology and data storage of the future. Particularly low-vibration laboratories for experiments with atomic precision and for researching and producing new materials are part of the infrastructure for which the new building creates the optimal framework and conditions.

“With the new research building, the scientific infrastructure of the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics has once again been fundamentally enhanced. This investment enables comprehensive research into key topics for the future. The new research building constitutes an important contribution towards the advancement of the research landscape in Halle and Saxony-Anhalt. Outstanding research requires both excellent minds and state-of-the-art infrastructures,” emphasises Dr Reiner Haseloff, Prime Minister of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
