Caverion builds cleanroom for Semikron Danfoss
Caverion Germany is planning, constructing, and qualifying a cleanroom of ISO Class 8 for Semikron Danfoss. The manufacturer of power electronics is expanding its production areas at its Flensburg location by 4,200 m². The services provided by the building technology specialist include the ceiling and walls of the cleanroom, including the technical trades of electrical, automation with associated monitoring, cooling, ventilation, heating, sprinklers, compressed air, as well as media supply including the connection of all machines. The contract value amounts to approximately EUR 15 million. The work by Caverion is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.
"For over 10 years, Caverion has been our partner in operational facility management as well as in the implementation of building projects," says Owe Andresen, Head of Real Estate and Facility Management for the CER region at Semikron Danfoss. "This is one of the reasons why we entrusted Caverion with this demanding project."
"The customer knows us well and relies on our expertise," explains Manfred Simmet, CEO of Caverion Germany. "A duration of nine months from planning to qualification and commissioning was estimated for this project – a very ambitious goal. So far, we are on schedule."
According to ISO 14644-1, a cleanroom of ISO Class 8 limits the number of airborne particles per m³ to 3,520,000 with a size of 0.5 µm. This cleanroom class is necessary for the production of semiconductor components. To maintain these conditions at all times, Caverion cleanroom experts are installing two ventilation systems, each exchanging 80,000 m³ of air per hour, and a compressed air system producing 1,500 m³/h. The planned cooling machines have a capacity of 1.5 MW.
