Improving indoor air quality sustainably – Camfil publishes Sustainability Report 2022
The aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic were still clearly felt in 2022, with economic, political, and entrepreneurial uncertainties remaining on the agenda. However, despite the challenging global situation in many respects, Camfil continued its path toward greater sustainability and – in full alignment with the guiding goal of making clean air a human right – committed itself to sustainably improving indoor air quality.
This vision stems from a clear commitment to sustainability, which runs through all areas of the company – from research and development to manufacturing and the global supply chain.
“Looking back on 2022, the words of Charles Dickens come to mind: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” says Mark Simmons, President and CEO of Camfil. “Sixty years ago, we set out to help people breathe cleaner air. Although it is invisible to the eye, the impacts of air on health, sustainability, and wallets are more evident than ever – making our message more relevant than ever.”
The recently published Sustainability Report 2022 documents Camfil’s goals, measures, and successes from the past year and provides the company with motivation and guidance for further commitment – not just to do sustainability, but to live it.
Under the global motto “Making Indoor Air More Sustainable,” this year’s report focuses on these topics:
– Hi-Flo – a new generation of bag filters
The new Hi-Flo filters enable customers in Europe to save more than 105 million kWh of energy annually and reduce their CO2 emissions by 25,620 tons. Additionally, the Hi-Flo is the first bag filter ever to be delivered with a detailed Environmental Product Declaration.
– Chief Airgonomics Officer Initiative
Last year, Camfil launched the “Chief Airgonomics Officer” initiative, which calls on employers worldwide to appoint responsible persons for indoor air quality. These Chief Airgonomics Officers are to act as “the voice of clean air” within their companies.
– Environmental Product Declarations
In industrial applications, Camfil’s filtration solutions can make a decisive difference, which is why claims about environmental impacts must be supported by transparent analyses. To this end, Camfil provides Environmental Product Declarations that address customer needs for greater sustainability and help them reduce their ecological footprint.
– EcoVadis Gold Rating
EcoVadis, one of the world's largest and most renowned providers of sustainability ratings for companies, awarded Camfil the Gold Rating in the “Special Machinery” category in 2022. This places Camfil among the top 1% of companies evaluated in this category.
Looking ahead
The sustainability report marks the transition from reflecting on what has already been achieved to looking forward to upcoming milestones. The topic of sustainability is constantly evolving, so Camfil must continually set new ecological, social, and economic goals – and stay innovative.
Anne-Marie von Salis, Vice President of Sustainability at Camfil, explains: “This year, it was mainly about defining the future work packages around the topic of sustainability. I am convinced that we are now well-positioned to take sustainability at Camfil to the next level.”
