Whether in the automotive, electrical, or mechanical engineering industry: Static electricity can disrupt the manufacturing process and significantly reduce the quality of the final product. The handy and particularly lightweight pistol ionizer from the IZG10 series by SMC, weighing only 200 g, neutralizes electrostatic charges in fractions of a second, efficiently removes particles such as dust or dirt – thereby improving the quality of end products across numerous industrial sectors.

The negative effects of electrostatic charges can cause significant problems in production processes – from dust adhesion on workpieces to difficulties in removing contaminants and issues during painting processes due to powder adherence. Possible consequences include inhomogeneous end products, complaints, and high follow-up costs. SMC, the specialist for pneumatic and electrical automation, offers a new, lightweight, and efficient pistol-style ionizer with the IZG10 series, which specifically removes dust or dirt adhering due to static electricity and thus improves the quality of the final product.

Fast and safe neutralization

The IZG10 series neutralizes static charges quickly and precisely – for example, at a distance of 150 mm and an operating pressure of 0.2 MPa, it takes only 0.3 seconds with a very low residual charge of approximately ±10 V. Real-time display LEDs help the operator read the device's operating status, enabling quick detection of malfunctions or necessary maintenance and thus increasing process safety. The optional bypass nozzle (OSHA1910.242b-compliant) never exceeds a pressure of 210 kPa (30 psi), even if the main nozzle is blocked, ensuring operator safety.

Multiple options for economical use

The pistol ionizer is easy to operate, weighs only 200 g (with standard nozzle), and is standardly equipped with a 24 V power supply – another advantage compared to solutions with heavy high-voltage cables. The IZG10 series features ten operating modes, which differ in two blower settings – continuous blow-off or pulsed blow-off – easily adjustable via the mode switch. When operating with continuous blow-off, the air is constantly ionized. If a more economical operation is desired or possible depending on the application, switching to pulsed blow-off can save air. The flow control valve allows adjustment of the ionized air flow directly in the pistol. The operating options and flow regulation thus offer flexibility and enable targeted adaptation to different manufacturing phases, simultaneously improving the final product quality.

High durability for broad application

Unlike ion guns supplied with ambient air, which quickly contaminate the electrode needle, the IZG10’s air supply comes from plant side air – dry, clean compressed air. This extends the lifespan of both the electrode needle and the pistol itself (up to 50 million cycles at 6 bar). The design of the IZG10 allows for quick, simple, and time-saving maintenance, as the nozzle and electrode needle can be easily and quickly replaced with just a few hand movements. Additionally, green or red LEDs on the pistol indicate the pistol and maintenance status for the operator’s view.

The pistol ionizer IZG10 is suitable for all industries, especially for applications where static electricity on surfaces needs to be removed manually – from packaging and food industries to medical and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as electronics, automotive, and general automation and manufacturing industries. It can be used for static neutralization and dust removal during assembly processes and is generally suitable for various work environments – such as manufacturing plastic or resin products, digital printing applications (e.g., cleaning unprinted media before printing), or painting/coating processes.
