SENSILO Opening: Million-dollar investment in the future viability of the corporate group
Official opening of the new SENSILO plant in the Fulda-West Technology Park / Around 48 million euros for the manufacturing of temperature and pressure sensors / Commitment to the Fulda economic region / Plant focused on sustainable production
The JUMO Group of Companies opened the new Plant 2 ("SENSILO") in Rodges on Thursday. In addition to the Juchheim family, representatives from politics, business, and administration, as well as numerous customers, partners, distinguished guests, and employees, gathered on Böcklerstraße in the Fulda-West Technology Park for the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"With the opening of the SENSILO plant, we are not just implementing a construction project. We are sending a signal – for our further development, for securing our location, and for our entrepreneurial future. SENSILO stands for what defines JUMO: the will to move things forward. for the ability to bring generations together. And for the claim that with our technology, we not only serve markets but also create solutions that truly make a difference," said JUMO shareholder Bernhard Juchheim.
Production and logistics area of around 10,000 m²
The new SENSILO plant for manufacturing temperature and pressure sensors has a production and logistics area of around 10,000 m². JUMO also sees great potential here in the coming years. With around 48 million euros, the new building is the largest investment in JUMO's history. Additionally, around 21 million euros will be invested in machinery and equipment by 2027.
"The plant is a million-euro investment in the future of the corporate group and a commitment to the Fulda economic region and, above all, to our customers," emphasized Managing Director Dr. Steffen Hoßfeld. He expressly thanked the city of Fulda and the Fulda district. "The cooperation with the authorities was consistently solution-oriented, unbureaucratic, and partnership-based. That helped us a lot and was decisive in enabling us to realize this project so promptly," said Hoßfeld.
Fulda's Mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld took up the point and emphasized: "This investment by the Fulda-based traditional company JUMO is a clear commitment to the Fulda location and the Fulda-West Technology Park. The entire region benefits from such strong medium-sized companies. With the new building, the company is also well prepared for the future, as measurement and control technology is a central future technology."
Integrated project management as the basis for success
Project manager Stefan Reith attributed the success of keeping the new building entirely within the time and budget framework to integrated project management. This method involves bringing all parties involved, including executing construction and craft companies, early into the planning process. The team concept is at the forefront.
Reith thanked architect Marco Schlothauer (Erfurt) as well as JUMO shareholders, management, works council, and all employees for their support. With Stefan Steinbeck as the new SENSILO plant manager, they were able to recruit an experienced production specialist who will steer the plant purposefully into the future.
Impressive energy concept of the new plant
The energy concept of the new plant sets standards:
- a 700 kW photovoltaic system on the roof (equivalent to the average consumption of about 200 single-family homes);
- 20 geothermal probes with a depth of 100 m each on the 100,000 m² site (average geothermal heat at 1000 m depth approx. 10°C);
- 1.2 MW/h cooling capacity for building climate control (equivalent to the cooling capacity of approx. 2000 cars);
- full-surface industrial underfloor heating over 8,500 m² (comparison: football field 7,140 m²);
- efficient heat recovery from production processes.
This versatile energy concept achieves the avoidance of fossil fuels. JUMO thus significantly reduces its own CO₂ footprint and also supports its customers through JUMO products and solutions in reducing costs and emissions.
