Measuring inserts with protective fittings are ready-to-install and DIN-compliant system components for industrial temperature monitoring of liquid, gaseous, and pasty media. Hotset now offers them in numerous variants for all thermocouples and resistance thermometers in its portfolio. As a functional unit consisting of sensing element, measuring insert, protective tube, connection element, and process connection, they cover a wide range of production, process, fluid, and energy engineering applications.

The German company hotset is among the leading manufacturers of heating elements and temperature sensors in Europe. It has also established itself as a full-service partner for the implementation of modern system solutions in plastics technology and toolmaking. Furthermore, it is currently developing into an attractive technology partner for industrial process and plant engineering. "Based on our expertise in temperature measurement technology and our project experience from many industries, we are now able to significantly expand our range of competencies," reports Sales Manager Sven Braatz. This is particularly evident in the activities of the Temperature Solutions business unit, which is presenting measuring inserts with protective fittings just in these days.

With this expansion of the portfolio of the hotcontrol brand's installation components, the company offers users in many industries a diverse selection of high-quality standard solutions for precise temperature monitoring of liquid, gaseous, and pasty media. Beyond the protective fittings of types 2G and 2GoH according to DIN 43772 — which are the most commonly used across industries — numerous other ready-to-install versions are available. They can be equipped with various connection heads and measuring inserts (DIN 43735) with all thermocouples and resistance thermometers from hotset. "We already cover a wide range of applications in production, process, energy, and fluid technology as standard," says Helge Meiritz, Head of the Temperature Solutions business unit. The main areas of application for the new protective fittings and measuring inserts include numerous tasks of temperature monitoring in machinery and plant engineering, industrial furnace construction, the steel and iron industry, as well as in light and non-ferrous metal processing, power plant technology, and automotive manufacturing. Chemical and petrochemical industries, building materials industries, and plastics technology are also among the users of these measurement components.

Quality from the First Hand

In their basic versions, the new protective fittings and measuring inserts from hotset are designed for process-close measurement of temperatures up to 1,100°C. "The temperature sensors integrated into them are characterized by short response times, high accuracy, and high vibration resistance," explains Helge Meiritz.

The new hotcontrol protective fittings are available in all types according to DIN 43722. This means that, in addition to the forms 2G (with neck tube) and 2GoH (without neck tube), other designs can be supplied. The user has the choice between protective tubes made of steel or stainless steel, with various lengths, diameters, and geometries, as well as for mounting via flange, screw-in, or weld connection. For all types, the measuring insert can be replaced, and the equipment with measuring transducers is possible. Helge Meiritz also emphasizes, "hotset not only produces DIN variants but also realizes customer-specific special forms."

Secure Signal Path to the Control System

The connection heads of hotcontrol protective fittings are made of die-cast aluminum and are offered in various versions. They protect the underlying socket with the system connections. To ensure a secure connection of the measuring tip with the bottom of the protective tube even with different thermal expansions of the protective tube and measuring insert, the socket has spring-loaded fastening screws. These allow flexible positioning of the measuring insert.

Ultimately, the quality of the protective fitting and measuring insert, as well as their application-appropriate selection, significantly influence the control and regulation quality of a thermodynamic system. They are therefore highly relevant for safe process control. Sven Braatz emphasizes: "Our new hotcontrol components are premium solutions, developed with project and industry expertise that we, as manufacturers of temperature sensors, heating elements, and control systems, have gained over more than five decades." When implementing individual customer requirements, hotset can not only draw on its development and engineering expertise but also on flexibly deployable production capacities at the Malta plant and small-series manufacturing in Lüdenscheid.
