The medical device industry continues to see a trend towards greater individualization and a wider variety of options. At this year's Compamed in Düsseldorf, MULTIVAC is focusing on flexible solutions for packaging medical products in small to medium batches, as well as automated feeding of all types of products. The showcased thermoforming packaging machines, tray sealers, and chamber machines are highly efficient and suitable for producing a wide range of package formats.

Among the exhibits is a flexible thermoforming packaging machine in MULTIVAC Clean Design for GMP-compliant packaging of medical sterile goods. The film feed of the bottom film is carried out via a single-sided chain guide, ensuring a controlled packaging process and easy line clearance. The controlled film feed also contributes to minimal start-up losses, for example after a batch change. The packaging machine is highly flexible for packaging products in various formats and materials. Quick and reproducible retooling is achieved through tool change systems and a simple, fast exchange of the complete cutting unit.

The thermoforming packaging machine is equipped with an innovative feed system for automated loading of syringes. This allows up to 300 pre-filled glass or plastic syringes per minute to be reliably and process-safely placed into the packaging cavities. The feed system consists of a feed shaft system, a singulation wheel, a conveyor belt, a 3-axis robot, and the handling module H 242. All components of the feed system are synchronized with the thermoforming packaging machine and can be conveniently and safely controlled via the control terminal.

Additionally, MULTIVAC presents the compact R 081 thermoforming machine for small batch production and companies looking to enter automated packaging. The machine can be used for manufacturing vacuum packs as well as packs with modified atmosphere and reduced residual oxygen content. Both hard and soft films, as well as Tyvek® and paper-based packaging materials, can be processed easily. The format ranges are freely configurable. The drawer system allows for quick and easy format changes.

In Düsseldorf, the R 081 will be showcased with the DP 230 film direct printer and a network-capable latest-generation thermal transfer printer, the TTO 06. The DP 230, installed in the sealing station area, prints on the packs longitudinally and transversely, making it suitable for machines with multiple rows and multiple tracks.

In the tray sealer segment, the T 260, specially developed to meet the high demands of the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, will be on display. This mobile compact model is designed to process a wide range of trays and offers a high degree of process safety, reproducibility, and especially flexibility when packaging in small to medium batches. The sealing tool ensures controlled sealing pressure and precise temperature distribution. Critical parameters are continuously monitored by sensors.

From its broad product range of chamber machines, MULTIVAC introduces the C 300 TC chamber machine. It enables the safe packaging of medical sterile goods in pouches, with the option to produce vacuum or modified atmosphere packs with reduced residual oxygen content. A temperature-controlled and permanently heated sealing bar, which is both validated and calibratable, ensures reproducible sealing quality on this machine.

All the machines mentioned are cleanroom-compatible and naturally meet legal requirements as well as GMP, GAMP5, and ISO guidelines.
