Particle formation is a thing of the past

High-purity pneumatically actuated valve series JLV20/30 from SMC for chemical liquids

Low Particulate Generation, Compact Design, and High Operating and Backpressures – In numerous industries where chemical liquids are handled, valves face special requirements. To better meet these and achieve even lower particulate formation, SMC has developed the JLV20/30 series. The compact pure media valves stand out, among other features, with chemical-resistant materials, space-saving design, high pressure and backpressure ranges, and an operational indicator for visual control of the valve's open and closed states.

Pure media valves are used across many industries: from chemical and medical sectors to food and electronics industries, and water treatment. To enable designers to operate more flexibly for various applications and for valves to better meet industry requirements, SMC has now developed the JLV20/30 series. The new pure media valves impress, among other things, with the use of chemical-resistant materials, even lower particulate formation thanks to an innovative valve closing mechanism, reduced mounting distances and valve widths, flexible use due to high pressure and backpressure capabilities, and finally, an operational indicator for visual control of the valve's open and closed states.

Reduced Particulate Formation and Chemical Resistance

The JLV20/30 valve series features an innovative design that optimizes pilot air venting, thereby reducing the closing speed of the valve just before it contacts the valve seat. As a result, the seating energy has been reduced by 90% compared to the existing model, leading to gentle closing of the valve and consequently lower particulate formation. Additionally, users have the option to obtain a valve with the optional Flare version, which, thanks to a hyper-fitting with a collet-clamp sleeve construction of the LQ3 series, is triple sealed, further reducing leaks.

Users also benefit from the versatile applicability of the JLV20/30 series. Thanks to the use of chemical-resistant materials, the series is well-suited for applications involving aggressive liquids. The housing is made of new PFA, the end plate and actuator unit from PVDF, and the valve from PTFE. This ensures use with media such as phosphoric and hydrochloric acid, dry ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hydroxide at a maximum medium temperature of 100°C. With certain additional measures, the pure media valves can be used with a range of other chemicals such as acetone or sulfuric acid. This makes them ideal for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the food and electronics sectors.

More Compact Design with Improved Pressure Ranges

The new JLV20/30 series also impresses with a more compact design compared to the existing model. The mounting distance for the JLV20 has been reduced by 45% (from 56 to 31 mm), and the valve width decreased by 20% to 24 mm (previously 30 mm) – clear advantages for use in space-constrained systems or for constructing compact machines.

At the same time, the valves are well-suited for applications requiring high pressure and backpressure. The operating pressure for the JVL30 has been improved by up to 66% compared to the previous model, now reaching 0 to 0.5 MPa – the backpressure range is also 0 to 0.5 MPa, representing an optimization of up to 150%.

Versatile Mounting Options and Status at a Glance

While the JLV20 series has a nominal diameter of Ø 4 and a hose outer diameter of 1/4 inch, the JLV30 series has a nominal diameter of Ø 8 and a hose outer diameter of 3/8 inch. The compatible hose sizes are 1/4 x 5/32 inch (JLV20) and 3/8 x 1/4 inch (JLV30). For the pilot connection, thread types Rc1/8, NPT1/8, and G1/8 are available.

Standardly, users benefit from the built-in operational indicator that continuously displays the valve's open and closed states. This allows for easy visual control and adds convenience, for example, after machine shutdowns.
