New construction of clean rooms in the new VMC (Vessel Management Center)
Through intelligent wastewater utilization: Netzer Group sets standards in pharmaceutical logistics
Recently, the NETZER GROUP once again demonstrated its expertise when it successfully implemented the contract for two cleanrooms totaling 600 m² for Grieshaber GmbH at the new VMC (Vessel Management Center) location in Ravensburg Schmalegg. Grieshaber, a German company specializing in pharmaceutical logistics, needed these specialized rooms to meet the high standards of the pharmaceutical industry. The cleanrooms feature a sealed, positive-pressure production environment where humidity, temperature, and particle count are regularly monitored. Such conditions are required for approximately 900 cryo-containers. The containers filled with active pharmaceutical ingredients are cooled and transported between different production sites within the Boehringer-Biopharma network. After the substance is emptied, the tanks return to the VMC, where they are centrally cleaned and, if necessary, maintained or repaired. This allows the vessels to be delivered just-in-time and according to demand to the respective production site for the next scheduled use.
The cleaning of these cryo-containers is a critical process that must ensure the highest purity and sterility to prevent contamination. The cleaning process requires a substantial amount of hot water at 70 degrees, which must be cooled to 35 degrees before entering the wastewater system. Here, the NETZER GROUP impressed with an energy-efficient solution: by using a two-stage heat recovery system, Grieshaber utilizes the waste heat from the cleaning process, saving half of the energy — a significant benefit for both the environment and operating costs.
As the general contractor, the NETZER GROUP relied on cost-efficient planning and execution for this project. The cleanrooms were realized as a "hall-in-hall" construction, with all technical systems and media piping housed above the steel structure in a platform to maximize space for maneuvering and storage areas. The implementation was carried out in the form of prefabricated, turnkey modules, which could be directly assembled and commissioned after factory acceptance by the customer. Throughout the entire project, Grieshaber had a single contact person at the NETZER GROUP, which facilitated communication and efficiently advanced the project.
This is how the NETZER GROUP operates, once again proving its leading role in cleanroom technology. The engineering pioneers of the NETZER GROUP set standards in technology, execution, and operational efficiency.
