Mewa Meisenheim is growing: Topping-out ceremony for the new cleanroom laundry
The textile service provider Mewa is expanding its location in Meissenheim. In direct proximity to the existing company buildings, Mewa is constructing an additional laundry for the maintenance of cleanroom textiles. The completion of construction is planned for the third quarter of 2025. With the expansion, around 50 new jobs will be created. During yesterday's topping-out ceremony, Ulrich Schmidt, Board Member for Production & Logistics of the Mewa Group, and Mayor Alexander Schröder, together with other representatives of the Mewa Group, drove the symbolic last nail into the framework of the newly built building.
Sustainable construction concept
As with all Mewa facilities, environmental protection and a sustainable use of resources are top priorities in Meissenheim. The planned new building sets new standards with its construction and energy concept. "The new operational building meets all the prerequisites for a Gold certification by the German Sustainable Building Council. According to our knowledge, this will be the first cleanroom laundry in Europe to aim for complete climate neutrality from the outset," reports Ulrich Schmidt, Board Member for Production & Logistics at Mewa.
For example, steam generation is supported by electricity from the company's own photovoltaic system. This steam is fed into the laundry. An optimized process logistics system ensures ergonomic workflows with short distances. The company is investing approximately 17 million euros in the new operational areas. On a footprint of around 1,700 square meters, in addition to the cleanroom laundry, a tailoring shop and staff rooms will be housed. A break room with a terrace for employees is also planned.
Maintenance of cleanroom textiles for three countries
With the expansion, the Mewa site in Meissenheim is gaining importance. From here, customers in the German-speaking region will be supplied with comprehensive service for cleanroom textiles. Cleanroom clothing is required in sensitive areas such as medical facilities, laboratories, or electrical engineering. It protects products and equipment from contamination by fine particles. The maintenance of these textiles involves special processes for decontamination and sterilization. With the expansion of the production site in Meissenheim, the Mewa Group will further expand its service portfolio in the cleanroom segment. Simultaneously, as a further strategic step, the cleanroom cleaning service provider Mikroclean was integrated into the Mewa Group.
