Bürkert invests around 20 million in new Plastics Technology Competence Center
In July 2025, construction will begin on the new Plastics Technology Competence Center at Bürkert Campus Criesbach. By December 2024, a hall covering approximately 6,000 square meters was completed, which unites the entire plastics expertise of the fluidics specialist under one roof: In addition to a materials analysis laboratory, toolmaking and design, plastics manufacturing technology, and a technical center are all housed in one building.
Jürgen Häberle, Head of the Construction, Toolmaking, and Plastics Manufacturing Division, describes the new Plastics Technology Competence Center, which was built on the Bürkert Campus Criesbach, as a "milestone in plastics technology at Bürkert." The approximately 6,000-square-meter building, completed in December 2024, now hosts the entire plastics value chain. The spaces freed up during the campus construction will be used in the future to expand customer-specific system development and to enhance machining technology. These areas will be expanded by around 30 percent, enabling further growth at the site. Overall, Bürkert invested around 20 million euros in the construction at Criesbach Campus – a clear commitment to the location, but also to the company's traditionally high manufacturing depth and the associated independence.
"Bringing all departments under one roof connects employees along the entire process chain. This allows us to work efficiently, facilitates the quick introduction of innovations into real processes, and guarantees excellent results for our customers," says Jürgen Häberle, pleased with the newly created framework conditions. Now, the entire process chain of plastics technology is closely integrated spatially. All requirements for the plastic component, the suitable materials, and the planned manufacturing steps are carefully checked early on and coordinated. The plastic parts are designed, qualified, and manufactured in a network – from development, toolmaking, to the technical center – in a manner appropriate for plastics. The analysis laboratory and technical center also benefit from their new proximity: necessary investigations, for example when introducing new materials or manufacturing technologies or solving new customer requirements, can be handled and resolved optimally through close collaboration.
Long-term, the Plastics Technology Competence Center is intended to be "the Polymer Excellence Center for the global manufacturing network of the Bürkert Group," describes Stefan Müller, Chief Technical Officer at Bürkert, emphasizing the building's crucial role in the company's future. He adds, "With the expertise at the Criesbach site, Bürkert has the opportunity to develop and process customer inquiries from around the world up to series production. The series can then be produced at manufacturing locations in Germany, France, the USA, China, or India – which makes supply chains more stable and flexible, reduces the CO2 footprint of the products, and also creates important proximity to customers and markets."
Together with project partners, management, and press representatives, the process managers of the plastics division officially opened the new Plastics Technology Competence Center at Bürkert Campus Criesbach at the end of May: "This new building makes it tangible every day for our partners and employees how we have been working process-oriented and with the customer in focus for decades. The new proximity within the Plastics Technology Competence Center strengthens our manufacturing depth and makes us somewhat less dependent on fragile supply chains and a rapidly changing environment," summarizes Stefan Müller.
