Check batteries in the protected container
Playing it safe: Mobile Plug&Test Labs from Weiss Technik
The demand for quickly available test solutions is particularly high in the e-mobility industry. Weiss Technik therefore offers mobile test chambers for testing lithium-ion batteries. The Plug&Test Labs are integrated into quickly deployable containers. An innovative safety concept guarantees fire protection.
Typical applications for Weiss Technik's Plug&Test Labs include the cost-effective setup of new test facilities, the rapid expansion of existing testing capacities, and short-term replacement for failed systems. In addition to maximum testing comfort, the Plug&Test Labs feature safety equipment according to Hazard Level 6. Manufacturers and suppliers in the e-mobility sector gain a completely new level of flexibility with these systems.
The standard containers used are twelve meters long and are delivered by semi-trailer. They offer a laboratory space of approximately 30 m2. Fully equipped with climate technology, the Plug&Test Lab can achieve temperatures from -40°C to +80°C and a temperature change rate of 3 K/min. Humidity levels from 10% to 95% relative humidity can be simulated. The range of applications extends from short end-of-line tests and prototype testing to long-term durability tests. The systems enable all standard-compliant temperature and climate tests on vehicle batteries.
Various extinguishing systems to choose from
One of the technical challenges for testing systems of lithium-ion batteries is fire and explosion protection. Defective or overloaded high-voltage batteries can catch fire. Therefore, the Plug&Test Labs are equipped with safety systems according to Hazard Level 6 (battery rupture, flying debris). Fire detection is performed early through cameras, gas sensors, and temperature sensors. An automatic fire suppression system is activated in case of fire. Depending on customer specifications, different techniques are available for the technical solution: nitrogen inerting, spray nozzles with water, flooding of the test chamber, or a high-pressure water mist suppression system that quickly spreads throughout the test chamber and provides strong cooling. The appropriate solution is individually configured according to customer requirements.
The containers themselves are reinforced for pressure. Relief valves and a rupture disc safely vent gases in case of overpressure. All cable and hose penetrations are protected by sealed silicone plugs and covers. A closed siphon prevents gases from escaping into the sewer system under high pressure.
