The University Hospital Halle (Saale) is expanding its existing building complex with a new ward building. Cadolto Modulbau GmbH was commissioned to plan and realize the project using modular construction methods.

The new building for general and intensive care (Ward House 20) is being constructed at Ernst-Grube-Straße 40 in Halle (Saale). The building extends over a basement, five upper floors, as well as a technical and roof center. It is constructed in a cuboid-shaped building block with overall dimensions of 25 m x 75 m and covers a gross floor area of approximately 12,000 m². The hospital building, consisting of 255 modules, will in the future provide a capacity of more than 200 beds.

The 255 modules for the new construction were produced in Cadolto’s workshops at the locations in Cadolzburg and Krölpa. To reach the construction site, the modules were transported by trucks to Halle (Saale). On August 17, 2022, the last module was delivered, and immediately afterward, the remaining interior work can begin.

Karsten Küßmann, Managing Director of Cadolto Modulbau GmbH: “Thanks to Cadolto’s modular construction method, we can build a clinical new building without disrupting the surrounding operations of the university hospital. The completion of the module installation always represents an important milestone in the realization process, as the building as a whole is now complete and the remaining interior work can proceed.”

The technical center of the new building will be constructed as a penthouse on the sixth upper floor. The new ward building will be connected to the existing university hospital via a connecting building. The basement and the connecting building were constructed using reinforced concrete.
