Analog all-rounder: New signal generator of the D-MH1 series scores with three digital outputs for position detection

Modern actuators perform their work reliably in many locations only when high-precision signal transmitters are used. To enable even lighter parts to be handled repeatedly with accuracy, SMC presents the analog all-round signal transmitters of the D-MH1 series: A single, small, and versatile switch differentiates between up to three position points and can be used independently of analog input components with an indicator unit. Additionally, it scores with quick direct mounting, standardized connectors, and a position resolution of ±0.1 mm – for example, to detect even minimal changes when handling workpieces in the food, pharmaceutical, or semiconductor industries.

Whether in the manufacturing of semiconductor chips and pharmaceuticals or packaging beverages: where short-stroke grippers are to facilitate the assembly or palletizing of lighter workpieces, precise and increasingly compact sensor technology is required. The automation specialist SMC has therefore expanded its portfolio with the compact analog signal transmitter series D-MH1, specifically developed for use with short-stroke drives. The precise and versatile signal transmitter D-MH1AD offers a high repeat accuracy of ±20 mV and thus a position query of ±0.1 mm, which can be read off using a digital measurement display (D-MH1BP). In terms of versatility, users benefit from up to three digital outputs for the position switch – as well as compatibility with numerous SMC grippers, including the large series D-MP position sensor.

More precision with less time and cost

Install a signal transmitter, recognize multiple positions: The D-MH1 series differentiates between up to three position points via its analog voltage output (1 to 5 V). With the "Snapshot" feature, a copy function of the measurement display, comfortable setting of multiple positions is possible. The new signal transmitters do not skimp on performance: The output repeat accuracy of ±20 mV and the resulting position resolution of ±0.1 mm are advantageous, for example, when detecting small changes in workpiece sizes.

Slim and quick for greater flexibility

A practical plus is the axial and perpendicular wiring input, allowing flexible installation depending on the application. The D-MH1 series can be securely connected with the optional pre-wired M8 and M12 connectors and easily turned on thanks to the adjustment device for the digital display. The signal transmitter also features a particularly compact switch housing, familiar from the D-M9 series: Its slim design prevents the switch from protruding at the gripper. Installation effort is minimized as well, since the housing can be mounted directly and without additional fastening elements for the switch.

Robust all-rounder for a wide range of applications

The D-MH1 series thus reduces the need for space, time, and costs for users, while also excelling in precision, performance, and robustness: The switch is well protected against environmental influences thanks to its IP67 housing, making it suitable for use under harsher conditions.

Designed for use with short-stroke grippers, the D-MH1 series is the versatile analog all-round signal transmitter for all industries where handling lighter workpieces is required – precise, safe, and economical thanks to only one switch solution for three position points. It is thus a reliable and cost-effective automation solution, for example, in robotics and pick-and-place applications in the food, semiconductor, or pharmaceutical industries.
