World Hand Hygiene Day on May 5: Raise awareness for hygiene

CWS Giveaway for elementary schools: Visit from hygiene expert Inspector Clean

Restroom hygiene is often a challenge in schools. To raise awareness among students about how they can contribute to better hygienic conditions themselves, CWS, the brand for restroom hygiene, is giving away a visit from "Inspector Clean" on the occasion of World Hand Hygiene Day.

Because even in Germany, hygienic restrooms in schools are not a given – especially in large cities. According to a survey by the German Toilet Organization e.V., 75 percent of Berlin students avoid their school toilets. Besides a lack of financial resources for cleaning and maintenance, the reasons also include a lack of appreciation for the place. That's exactly where "Inspector Clean" comes in, showing elementary school children what they can do themselves.

The hygiene detective is on the trail of hidden bacteria and involves the children in his investigations. With riddles, he captures the kids' attention in a playful way and highlights dirt and stains that are not visible to the naked eye. And of course, he provides very practical tips on proper handwashing.

The contest at a glance:

- The initiative is aimed at all elementary schools in Germany that want to improve the condition of their restrooms with the help of their students.
- Individual classes from elementary schools (grades 1 to 4) can apply.
- Applications are submitted via the website www.cws-boco.de/inspektorclean. The class must explain in text, photo, or video why Inspector Clean should come to their school. The application deadline is June 30, 2015.
- The event is free for the winners and will take place after the summer holidays on a date tailored to the winners.

On World Hand Hygiene Day, May 5, 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) aims to draw attention to the fact that the risk of infection with pathogenic germs can be significantly reduced through thorough hand hygiene. CWS has been supporting the WHO's initiative for years and wants to pass on knowledge about handwashing and hygiene prevention to students – in a playful and original way. CWS is one of the leading providers of restroom solutions such as soap or fabric towel dispensers and also supports schools. Through the website www.haendehygiene.de, these have been able to order free posters, booklets, and mirror stickers with instructions for hygienic handwashing for many years.
