A smoothly functioning technical infrastructure is an indispensable prerequisite for economic success across all industrial sectors. When parts of production facilities or research institutions have to be shut down due to material failure, for example caused by a defective floor covering, it can have serious consequences. This is especially true for cleanrooms. In addition to the time- and cost-intensive renovation, there is also the risk of downtime, which in the worst case can threaten the existence of companies. A forward-looking product selection can ensure greater process safety in the long term and also save costs. Prof. Dr. Andreas Gerdes, Scientific Director of the KIT Innovation Hub "Prevention in Construction," explains how this works in a webinar hosted by nora systems:

"Even in industrial construction projects, the purchase price of products is often the only criterion — other aspects, such as long-term performance or economic maintenance, are neglected," says Gerdes. There are already methods available to conduct an object- and usage-specific material selection. This scientifically based evaluation process, which also considers factors such as sustainability, life cycle costs, and maintenance, will be presented in the webinar using the example of selecting floor systems for pharmaceutical areas. Because in the economical operation of industrial plants, the flooring should always be chosen not only for robustness and durability but also for easy cleaning and maintenance.
