Topping-out ceremony at Carl-Tackert-Straße 21 in Schwerin: Vink Chemicals celebrated the completion of the shell construction for the new production site on May 22, 2025. In the Göhreener Tannen industrial park, south of Schwerin's city center, the third production location of the family business is currently being built in Germany – with around 50 new jobs, strengthening the region economically.

At the newest production site, Vink Chemicals will synthesize active substances for the preservation of technical products and produce their mixtures. A special highlight at the Schwerin location is the plant for the production of high-quality biochar, whose applications are widely diversified. The plant is an example of a circular economy approach: waste utilization in production is combined with a commitment to sustainability.

Use of electricity and waste heat from sustainable raw materials

As by-products, the biochar plant generates process steam, heat, and electric power, covering a portion of the company's own needs for chemical production. Additionally, it can supply local companies with district heating and electricity. Currently, the scalable installation is designed to cover up to 30% of the energy demand in a clean, affordable, and safe manner—with the option for further expansion at a later date. The planned potential for CO2 reduction is currently unique for chemical production in Germany.

For the production of biochar, Vink Chemicals relies on sustainable raw materials, including so-called forest management and sawmill residues from the region: used as fuel for the biomass steam generator. For the three pyrolysis plants, Vink Chemicals uses untreated residual wood, including that from cable drum production, supplied by local companies.

Numerous visitors from business and politics

The topping-out ceremony was organized by the construction company responsible and marks an important milestone at the new site. Guests included representatives from the state government and local administration, who acknowledged the project during brief speeches. A regional business association also supported the event and emphasized the importance of the project for the economic development of the region.

Vink Chemicals places great importance on good neighborly relations at the site. Together with local companies, the company aims to contribute to strengthening and further developing the industrial location. Another goal is to achieve climate neutrality at the site. For Vink Chemicals, it is a major investment in the future, setting the course for positioning itself even more strongly as an industry leader.
