Vaisala introduces the next generation of hazardous area humidity and temperature transmitters, the HMT370EX series.

Vaisala, a globally leading company in weather, environmental, and industrial measurements, is launching a new next-generation series of humidity and temperature transmitters to leverage technological advancements and meet and surpass current hazardous area regulations.

The new intrinsically safe Vaisala HUMICAP® humidity and temperature transmitter series HMT370EX is based on more than 20 years of experience with the proven Vaisala HMT360 series and offers an even more robust and user-friendly design.

It effectively continues our reliable HMT360 product line and can be easily integrated into existing systems," says Juhani Lehto, Product Manager of Vaisala's Industrial Measurements business area.

Ideal solution for humidity measurement in hazardous areas

The HMT370EX series has been specifically developed for hazardous and explosion-prone areas. The complete transmitter can be installed directly in explosion hazard zones up to Zones 0 and 20.

"The HMT370EX operates safely and reliably even in environments with the highest hazard classification, without the need for additional protective enclosures. Thanks to its rugged display, the transmitter is resistant to the persistent effects of explosion-prone areas containing flammable gases or dust," continues Juhani Lehto.

Typical applications for the HMT370EX include paint booths in the automotive industry, hydrogen-cooled generators in power generation, chemical factories and processes, baking industries, pharmaceutical manufacturing, oil and gas drilling platforms, as well as fuel tanks and storage.

Various probes for different applications

The HMT370EX series consists of the transmitter and a wide selection of probes. The transmitter is equipped with an intuitive graphical display for improved usability. Removable measurement probes and easy product configuration and calibration with Vaisala Insight PC software enable smooth maintenance and fewer measurement failures.

Different probes are available for the HMT370EX for various applications:

- HMP371 for wall mounting
- HMP373 for small spaces
- HMP374 for pressurized environments
- HMP375 for high temperatures
- HMP377 for high humidity
- HMP378 for pressure lines

In addition to measuring relative humidity and temperature, the new transmitter also provides dew point temperature, humidity temperature, absolute humidity, mixing ratio, water concentration, water mass fraction, water vapor pressure, and enthalpy.

Available from early 2021

The HMT370EX can be used as a replacement for the HMT360 series in the same applications where the HMT360 was used.

"We are proud to announce that after more than 20 years of successful operation in various critical Ex environments, the HMT360 can gradually be phased out," concludes Juhani Lehto.

The new HMT370EX series will be available from the first quarter of 2021 with EU ATEX and global IECEx certifications. Certification for other regions will be available later in 2021.
