Two SÜDPACK innovations awarded again
First the German Packaging Award 2023, now the WorldStar Packaging Award: The two packaging concepts Tubular Bag PurePE and PharmaGuard® by SÜDPACK are among the winners of the global competition that annually recognizes the best of the best in packaging innovations. Both solutions are based on monomaterial structures and impress the jury with their recyclability, increased material efficiency, and a reduced CO2 footprint. The award ceremony will take place on June 15th in Bangkok during the ProPak Asia Show.
The WorldStar Award is one of the most important events of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and reflects the continuous development of packaging technologies and trends. With this award, the jury annually honors 200 current innovations that have already been recognized with national and international awards, serving as examples of excellence in sustainability, hygiene, and design, paving the way into the future.
The Tubular Bag PurePE for the international cheese ripening industry
The polyethylene-based concept sets standards in terms of recyclability, material efficiency, and reduction of the CO2 footprint. By using a 30 µm thinner film compared to previous film structures, resource consumption was reduced by 23%, and the CO2 footprint by 19%. The recyclability of the Tubular Bag PurePE was certified by the renowned cyclos-HTP Institute with 96%. “At the same time, we were able to meet the high demands for product protection and functionality regarding the essential barrier properties for cheese ripening, the aging process, and puncture resistance,” explains Valeska Haux, Vice President Strategic Marketing & Sustainability at SÜDPACK.
In short: The Tubular Bag PurePE is a fully functional substitute for conventional PA/PE structures, which is also optimally processable on both fully and semi-automatic packaging machines.
PharmaGuard® has also been recognized again
The PP-based and thus recyclable film concept for blister packs by SÜDPACK MEDICA is also a groundbreaking step towards sustainability in the pharmaceutical industry. A life cycle analysis conducted by Sphera shows that, compared to the commonly used blister solutions made of PVC/PVdC and aluminum, this packaging concept has a significantly reduced climate impact (in CO2-eq.) of up to 47%, as well as lower energy and water consumption.
The bottom and lid films produced using an innovative coextrusion process feature outstanding properties such as high transparency and barrier performance. “Thanks to PP as the raw material base, the excellent water vapor barrier is particularly noteworthy,” emphasizes Valeska Haux. Not least, the perfectly coordinated films guarantee optimal seal performance, reflected in maximum process safety and packaging quality.
With the two WorldStar Packaging Awards...
SÜDPACK once again impressively emphasizes its claim as a technology and innovation leader in the market. Valeska Haux is especially pleased that “our new products are recognized and valued as examples of excellence in sustainability in both the food and medical and pharmaceutical industries on an international level.”
The WorldStar Packaging Awards will be presented on the last day of the ProPak Asia Show, which takes place in Bangkok from June 12th to 15th.
