The best component is of little use if it is not available at the critical moment. Conversely, high delivery reliability alone is not enough if quality fluctuates or technical requirements are not reliably met. Especially in mechanical engineering, it often only becomes clear in serial production what a good supplier is truly worth.

What should OEMs pay attention to? Consistent quality, reliable delivery performance, technical understanding, and the ability to jointly develop requirements are among the key criteria. Additionally, there is a factor that is hardly reflected in a datasheet: trust, which is built over years through dependable performance.

From alternative supplier to partner

In 2016, LED2WORK started at TRUMPF as a second source – with several product lines from its own range, including one of the most successful in the portfolio. In 2021, TRUMPF made LED2WORK the primary supplier and commissioned a luminaire according to TRUMPF specifications, developed to meet the application-specific requirements of the machine builder. Key factors: performance, price, flexibility.

To this day, for more than ten years, LED2WORK has been supplying standard and custom solutions to TRUMPF. Because in the end, it’s not just about the individual luminaire, but how reliably it integrates into the production and delivery processes of the machine builder.

Supplier performance becomes a competitive advantage

That this standard is also met from the customer’s perspective is confirmed by the TRUMPF Supplier Award 2025. LED2WORK received the award in the category “Best Overall Performance – Production Material.” TRUMPF particularly highlights the “significantly above-average delivery reliability” despite global challenges.

“An OEM partner must understand the application and deliver a good product. But that’s actually just the beginning,” says Jan Schiga, Managing Director of LED2WORK. “For our customers, it’s just as important that quality is reproducible, deadlines are met, and we can quickly develop a reliable solution even for new requirements.”

Therefore, it pays for machine builders not only to evaluate suppliers based on unit price and technical data. How stable is the quality over years? How are bottlenecks handled? If the supplier also understands the application and can respond quickly to changes, a cooperation develops that advances both companies.

The journey from second source to primary supplier shows: Long-term OEM partnership is not created by a single product. It is built through performance that repeatedly proves itself in everyday production.
