Triple event on process engineering with high internationality

From April 23 to 25, 2013, a total of 959 exhibitors invited visitors to the Nuremberg Exhibition Center at POWTECH and TechnoPharm – and 16,803 trade visitors from 83 countries attended. Praise was given not only for the high quality of the conversations but also for the internationality of the events. Every third trade fair visitor and every third exhibitor traveled from abroad to Nuremberg. Simultaneously at the exhibition center: PARTEC. The International Congress for Particle Technology, held every three years, attracted around 480 participants to the Franconian metropolis, nearly half of whom came from abroad. "Stable exhibitor numbers, very good visitor turnout, and high internationality demonstrate how important our trade fairs are for the international powder and bulk material processing industry," summarized Willy Viethen, Event Director at NürnbergMesse.

The next trade fair duo POWTECH and TechnoPharm will take place from September 30 to October 2, 2014, at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center.

The trade fair duo focusing on process engineering plants and equipment is firmly anchored in Europe's chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and building materials industries. The top visitor countries after Germany were Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.

POWTECH remains No. 1 for the international powder and bulk material processing industry

With 724 exhibitors from 27 countries on a net area of over 22,000 m², the world's most comprehensive offering around mills, mixers & Co. was presented to trade visitors from chemistry, food, ceramics, and machinery and plant engineering. 35 percent of the exhibitors were international. Leading exhibitor nations after Germany were Italy, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria, and the USA. This year as well, the trade fair covered the entire spectrum of mechanical processes at the highest technological level.

TechnoPharm: High-tech solutions for an industry in transition

At TechnoPharm, the international forum for planners and operators of plants in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetics industries, 235 exhibitors from 16 countries presented the current state of production under the highest hygiene standards on a net area of over 5,600 m². The focus was on innovations that help make individual production stages even more efficient – an important step for the pharmaceutical industry, which faces new challenges due to personalization in modern medicine, increased regulation, and rising cost pressures. For the second time, the trade fair focused on cleanroom technology with the Cleanroom Village and the two-day CleanRoomCongress, organized by the Working Group for Pharmaceutical Process Engineering and Concept Heidelberg.

PARTEC: small particles – the big topic in Nuremberg

Parallel to POWTECH and TechnoPharm, the International Congress for Particle Technology PARTEC attracted around 480 particle specialists to the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. Nearly 50 percent came from abroad. About 180 lectures and two poster sessions with over 190 poster presentations invited to an intensive exchange of the latest scientific findings, including particle formation and characterization, measurement methods, and various industrial applications for particles.

Triple award: young researchers in focus

The PARTEC Congress provided a high-quality framework for awarding three professional prizes. The VDI – Society for Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering (VDI-GVC) honored Dr. Sergiy Antonyuk with the Friedrich-Löffler Prize for his outstanding research on the adhesion, deformation, and fracture behavior of agglomerates. The award, which is bestowed every three years, promotes engineering young talents who have made special contributions in the field of particle research, particle technology, and product design. The prize, awarded for the first time this year, is endowed with 3,000 euros.

On the second day of the congress, the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) awarded Dr. Carlos González Montellano the Excellence Award in Mechanics of Particulate Solids for his doctoral thesis "Applications of the discrete element method to the study of granular materials stored in silos and hoppers." The award recognizes outstanding doctoral theses and is endowed with 1,500 euros.

The Best Poster Award sponsored by the scientific publisher Elsevier was awarded to Stefanie Wanka, a doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, for her contribution "Development of a system measuring adhesion forces in powder collectives." Her poster impressed the jury with its high research quality, clarity of content, and compelling presentation. The prize is worth 250 dollars.
