Boehringer Ingelheim is investing in the production of active ingredients at the Germany site: The research-based pharmaceutical company celebrated the topping-out ceremony for a new production building at its headquarters in Ingelheim on Monday. The investment amount is approximately 75 million euros. The New Hydrogenation Plant (NHP) is expected to start operations in about two years.

The new facility is a synthesis operation where the so-called hydrogenation takes place, an important intermediate step in the production of chemical active ingredients. Green hydrogen is also to be used in the production process. "The NHP is future-proof and takes ecological sustainability principles into account," says Dr. Bernhard Rausch, Head of Chemical Site Ingelheim. The new building replaces an old facility that has reached the end of its lifecycle and expands the possibilities for future production of chemical active ingredients. This investment is therefore a strategically important step to ensure the supply of people with innovative medicines.

The investment is also a clear commitment to the site, Rausch explains: "The pharmaceutical industry is a key industry for the development of the economic location Germany." It is an outstanding economic sector that, alongside high productivity, possesses great innovative strength to compete globally.
