The Swiss cleanroom technology at ISO, VDI & TCs (technical committees)

The Swiss Society for Cleanroom Technology (SRRT, or Swiss Contamination Control · SwissCCS) is a non-profit organization with approximately 300 members from industry and private individuals, engaged in contamination control as well as in plant construction for all matters related to cleanrooms.

At last year's international meeting of the cleanroom industry of the ICCCS (International Confederation of Contamination Control Societies) in September in Sao Paulo, SwissCCS made a significant contribution to international standardization.

Here, over ISO/TC 209 (technical committees) - Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments, among others, 23 participating nations and 21 observer nations are involved (see Table 1 & 2). Representatives of SwissCCS included Brunner, Arnold & Nägeli, Andreas & Otto, Norbert, as well as Straub, Werner.

It should of course also be mentioned that not every nation regularly participates in the standards meetings. It is rather limited to a few European nations, Japan & the USA — which makes the process of reaching consensus on standards quite challenging. At the various meetings in different countries, preliminary decisions are made, which are then often revised afterwards by country representatives who were not present.

As is well known, this also means that some issues are not completed within the scope of the scheduled revision periods and are often unnecessarily prolonged.

Of course, SwissCCS also organizes conferences, specialist seminars, and training sessions according to VDI and ICEB (International Cleanroom Education Board) standards once a year, and gladly at our members' premises upon request.
