The most innovative research and development centre in Switzerland | pRED

Application

With the new pRED Centre in Basel, Roche has created a state-of-the-art environment for cutting-edge research and development. The aim of the project was to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and create optimal conditions for scientific innovation. The flexibly designed laboratory and office spaces, which are located right next to each other, promote direct exchange and the emergence of new research approaches.

Around 1,800 modern workplaces have been set up in the four new buildings (Buildings 4–7). The pRED Centre comprises two laboratory towers with heights of 114 and 72 metres, an office building and a conference centre (26 m and 18 m). A total of 150 laboratory units and combined work areas for researchers are spread over 33 floors. The buildings are equipped with the latest laboratory technology and digital solutions and have been specifically designed for collaborative work and end-to-end research logic – with the aim of bringing innovations to patients more quickly.

The Solution

As part of the construction of the new pRED Centre in Basel, Skan was able to make a decisive contribution to equipping the state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure: a total of 241 claire® neo safety cabinets were delivered, installed and commissioned on schedule.

The numerous innovative features of the claire neo® series enable a high degree of sustainability without compromising on performance and safety.

A key feature of the solution is the consistent grid dimension of the safety cabinets, which allows for optimal integration into the existing laboratory layout of the pRED Centre. This adaptation ensures that the workstations not only meet the highest safety and hygiene standards, but also fit seamlessly into the modular laboratory environment.

Close cooperation with Roche and Berner International has resulted in a solution that is both functionally and ergonomically tailored to the needs of researchers. The successful implementation is a significant milestone – for Roche, for the overall success of the project and for us at SKAN.
