In April 2024, it finally happened! The expansion of InfraTec GmbH Infrared Sensor Technology and Measurement Technology was completed after less than 2.5 years of construction. With the move into the new building, InfraTec employees now have spacious and air-conditioned offices, as well as, as usual, height-adjustable desks and ergonomic office chairs. The path to the coffee machine and tea shelf is also not far, because next to an inviting break room, there is another coffee kitchen on each floor. After the completion of the new building, the offices and rooms in the existing building are now being renovated.

In total, on a total area of 2,700 m², in addition to the new office spaces, spacious manufacturing and development areas for thermographic cameras and infrared detectors have been created.

The capacity for radiometric calibration of thermal imaging cameras – the most important step to turn them into temperature measuring devices – has been significantly expanded. A newly developed, complex, fully automatic calibration machine has been taken over by the manufacturing department after successful test runs. Higher throughput, greater accuracy, and extended technical parameters provide a solid foundation for calibrating current and future generations of InfraTec thermographic cameras, according to the needs of demanding customers from research, development, and quality assurance.

Energy efficiency in focus

From the very beginning of the planning, the construction of an energy-efficient building according to KfW55 standards was the focus. With triple-glazed windows, increased thermal insulation of the roof and facade, and a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 100 kWp to supply the clean room with green electricity*, the building has an excellent energy balance.

Clear commitment to Dresden as a business location

The completed project was InfraTec's largest construction project to date, with an investment of 20 million euros, and a clear confirmation of the company's headquarters and production site in Dresden. InfraTec has been producing and developing its products at the South Dresden location in the Dresden Technology Center for over 30 years. In 2018, InfraTec acquired a property here, which was significantly expanded by a new cleanroom and office wing for the sensor technology business area by the end of 2020.

With the expansion completed this year, another milestone has been set for an optimized manufacturing structure and increased production capacities. InfraTec will thus continue to meet the rising demand for thermal imaging cameras and detectors, which are exported worldwide by almost 70%.

* The project is funded by the Saxon Development Bank from funds of the "Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure" funding program.
