For 65 years, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences has been training the next generation of engineers at the Faculty of Building, Energy, and Environmental Technology. On September 21, the new laboratory building was inaugurated to better connect theory and practice. Among other things, students have access to a transparent ventilation and air conditioning unit provided by ebm-papst and AL-KO THERM for the faculty.

Air handling units (AHU) ensure optimal temperature in many areas and are an important part of engineering training. Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Gerhard Fetzer, Dean of the Faculty, at the inauguration: "We now have a laboratory building where we can provide our students with the conditions needed for the practical part of their studies, making study and laboratory work truly enjoyable!"

AHU with viewing glasses

The housing of the AHU was equipped with special viewing glasses to make the normally "invisible" visible. The rotor, filter, heater, and cooler can be observed in their function, as well as the technical highlights of the device, including the fans from ebm-papst. Thanks to this ventilation and air conditioning unit, students in Esslingen have the opportunity to prepare for their future careers based on the latest technology. The prospective supply engineers are challenged in heating, air conditioning, sanitation, control technology, as well as energy and water supply.

Efficient latest-generation radial fan

In the AHU, two energy-efficient RadiPac radial fans ensure air transport; one of the two installed fans is equipped with aluminum hollow-profile blades. The position of the motor represents a good compromise between the compactness of the entire fan unit and the aerodynamically optimal placement of the motor within the impeller. At the impeller outlet, the air is directed into the main airflow of the air conditioning system, significantly improving the pressure loss caused by redirects.

Membrane humidifier ensures targeted humidification

Equally forward-looking is the built-in AL-KO HYGRO OPT membrane humidifier, which humidifies rooms without drips, precipitation, or aerosols. The fully demineralized and desalinated water is contained in highly durable membrane bags, reliably separating water flow from the air duct. Gaseous water passes through the membrane adiabatically, providing precise humidification. The formation of legionella bacteria in the air duct is thus excluded.
