Sustainability and resource conservation in print relief

At the ACHEMA, Bormann & Neupert by BS&B presents the first "green" reverse rupture disc for industrial applications – also for the increasingly important hydrogen market.

Whether alternative drives for the fleet or a photovoltaic system on the company building – the highly topical trend towards more sustainability as well as environmental and climate protection has many manifestations in the economic environment. Another building block for greater future viability in the process and manufacturing industry is sustainably manufactured components for plants, equipment, and machinery. Bormann & Neupert by BS&B now offers the new LSR reverse rupture disc as the first "green" pressure relief device for industrial applications in new and existing installations.

The manufacturing process of LSR is consistently designed for low resource consumption, fewer CO2 emissions, and low energy requirements. For example, no water is used in the production of the rupture disc, the packaging consists exclusively of recyclable cardboard, and a one-piece design significantly reduces material requirements. The BS&B production facilities are certified according to environmental management standard DIN EN ISO 14001:2015.

Resistant to highly corrosive media and hydrogen

The vacuum- and pressure-resistant reverse rupture disc also enables maximum efficiency functionally: Available in nominal sizes from 25 to 150 millimeters, LSR is primarily designed for low to medium response pressures from 0.14 bar to 20 bar – among other things, for the insulation of overpressure valves. In the event of a critical overpressure, it immediately and fragment-free releases the full relief cross-section. It is suitable for liquid, gaseous, and multiphase media.

In addition to stainless steel 316 – for use in the production, processing, storage, and transportation of hydrogen – Bormann & Neupert by BS&B offers LSR in numerous other materials. For example, variants made of Hastelloy or Inconel are available for contact with corrosive chlorine gas or sour gases. Inconel as a material even allows process temperatures up to nearly 600°C (1,100°F). Additionally, versions with PTFE or FEP anti-stick coatings are available.

All versions are technically leak-proof and can withstand process pressures up to 90 percent of the response pressure over the long term. Upon request, the CE-marked LSR can also be supplied with ASME UD marking in manufacturing tolerances of 0 percent, -5 percent, and -10 percent. As a system provider for industrial pressure relief devices, Bormann & Neupert by BS&B also offers the corresponding rupture disc holders for quick and easy installation. Pre-assembled units and special designs always ensure error-free, optimal positioning and precise alignment.

Sustainability initiative launched

With the LSR rupture disc, the globally active industrial supplier BS&B takes another important step on the path to more sustainable processes at its production sites. Transparency and assurance of the qualified implementation of the sustainability strategy are additionally provided to clients through the EcoVadis rating, which BS&B is currently undergoing.
