Surmodics expands its medical device coating capabilities in Ireland

Surmodics, Inc. announced today the expansion of its medical device coating capabilities in Galway, Ireland, thereby improving access to the company's Performance Coatings and coating services for medical device manufacturers across Ireland and Europe.

The facility now features specialized cleanroom environments designed for medical device coating services, bringing Surmodics' nearly 50 years of experience in coating technology closer to one of the world's leading centers of medical technology. "Ireland has a significant concentration of medical device manufacturers and technology innovators, making the country an important market for Surmodics and our customers," said Damien Kilcommons, Vice President of Site Operations at the Ireland location. "By establishing specialized coating capabilities in Ireland, we can work more closely with regional customers and bring decades of knowledge in coating science, process expertise, and technical support closer to their development and manufacturing teams."

The Ireland site enhances Surmodics' ability to support medical technology companies from early development through to market launch. Customers can engage Surmodics for coating feasibility testing, process development, coating services, and analytical testing, working with technical teams that understand the challenges related to medical device materials and performance requirements.

Surmodics' coating portfolio includes hydrophilic, hemocompatible, antimicrobial, and drug-eluting technologies designed to improve the performance of a wide range of medical devices. The company also offers both UV and thermally curing coating platforms, providing customers with various options depending on substrate, geometry, performance needs, and manufacturing requirements.

Analytical testing services complement Surmodics' coating capabilities by helping manufacturers evaluate coating performance and better understand factors such as lubricity, durability, particle formation, and surface properties. These services can be used in conjunction with Surmodics' coating programs or independently to support a broad spectrum of medical device applications.
