Successful acceptance: Two hospital buildings for Umeå

After the first construction phase was completed in July 2017, Cadolto handed over two buildings for the University Hospital Norrland turnkey on 16.04.2018.

Two interim buildings ensure the ongoing operation of the university hospital during the eight-year renovation works. In January 2017, Cadolto received the order to plan and construct these buildings, designed by Sweco Architects, Umeå, with a total gross floor area of 6,783 m².

With the construction of the first phase in July 2017, the modular construction specialist achieved the first milestone. With the current handover of the turnkey modular buildings, both structures can now go into operation.

To meet the high patient volume in the rapidly growing city of Umeå, a quick implementation was required. Cadolto implemented the suitable solution: spread over four floors, the new building complex houses a Post-OP area, an eye clinic, an EMC area for measuring brain waves, and neurophysiotherapy. Additionally, there are 70 patient rooms. The buildings are interconnected via the atrium of the intermediate building and with the existing structures through "Skywalks".

The buildings were prefabricated up to 90 percent in Cadolzburg near Nuremberg, including the planned medical and building technology. The 141 modules were loaded onto trucks after leaving the factories, transported to the Rostock port, and subsequently shipped by sea to northern Sweden.
