Stay cool, save space
The new cooling and tempering devices from SMC
Cooling and Temperature Control Device HRR for 19-Inch Racks
State-of-the-art devices such as laser oscillators quickly become hot and need to be cooled accordingly to function optimally in the long term. Often, multiple cooling devices are necessary, which then need to be compact. The new cooling and temperature control devices of the HRR series are only 310 mm high. This makes them 305 mm smaller than comparable standalone units and they fit perfectly into 19-inch racks, where several devices can be accommodated space-savingly. Users can choose between water-cooled and air-cooled variants.
When designing the new cooling and temperature control devices of the HRR series, the SMC experts were guided by their experience and reports from practical use. All connections from the drain valve to the filling port for the temperature-regulating circulation medium are located on the front of the cooling and temperature control devices. Maintenance and servicing, such as replacing the particulate filter, can also be carried out without removing the device from its rack. The new devices also easily connect to the overall system control via the RS-232C/RS-485 communication interface.
Precise, Easily Controllable Temperature Regulation
Within the setting range of 10 to 35 °C, the devices of the new HRR series maintain the temperature accurately—with an accuracy of ± 0.1 °C—thanks to cooling capacities of 1.2 to 3 kW. The heating function, with a capacity of 450 to 550 W, is particularly efficient in the HRR series cooling and temperature control devices. Waste heat from the compressor is used, eliminating the need for an additional heating element. "Due to the heating function, a constant temperature can always be maintained," explains Olaf Hagelstein, Product Manager at SMC.
The cooling and temperature control devices of the HRR series are operated via a color LCD display on the front of the device. In normal operation, the current and set temperatures are easily readable. In case of a malfunction, the device automatically identifies the problem using an integrated fault diagnosis system and displays one of 23 programmed error codes on its LCD screen. This allows the user to quickly and easily resolve the issue. The devices also automatically indicate maintenance intervals, ensuring long-term smooth operation.
The new HRR series cooling and temperature control devices are used for cooling UV lamps in drying systems, cooling laser-irradiated workpieces, and temperature control of ultrasound lasers or X-ray tubes, as well as in manufacturing applications in the laser, medical, chemical, and electronics industries.
