The interdisciplinary conference "Plastics in Medical Technology" will take place from January 30 to 31, 2019, in Leipzig. The organizer is the Plastics Center in Leipzig (KUZ) together with the partners Biotechnological-Biomedical Center of the University of Leipzig (BBZ) and the Cluster for Biotechnology & Medical Technology in Saxony (biosaxony e.V.).

With the aim of supporting dialogue between companies from both industries and highlighting potential for collaboration, the organizer presents a forward-looking conference program. "As was the case with the very successful inaugural event in 2018, a space is created for productive synergy effects between the plastics processing and medical technology sectors. High-quality technical input and a variety of opportunities for exchange await the participants of this high-caliber event," emphasizes Dr. Peter Blöß, Managing Director of KUZ. An informative trade exhibition and excursions to innovative Leipzig companies complete the exciting lecture program.

Theoretical requirements versus feasibility

The application-oriented conference focuses on medical technology and its entire value chain. The thematic scope of the lecture program ranges from plastics specifically for medical applications, processing technology, to high-quality medical-technical solutions, and extends to measurement technology and quality assurance. Speakers from renowned companies across the D-A-CH countries provide exciting insights into their work through best practice solutions and showcase potentials and challenges for plastics processors in the field of medical technology. At the same time, the possibilities of plastics technology for the medical industry are presented. The dynamic development of both sectors fuels innovative solutions for a broad range of applications. Already today, more than half of the medical devices manufactured worldwide are made of plastics.

Parallel to the lecture event, companies have the opportunity to present themselves as exhibitors and engage in intensive discussions with visitors. In addition to the accompanying trade exhibition, various excursions to renowned research institutions and innovative companies in Leipzig await industry visitors on the first day of the event. An evening event featuring an exciting lecture on the operating room of the future from the perspective of an ENT surgeon, followed by a get-together at the buffet, rounds off the event.
