Increasingly demanding specifications regarding tolerances, surface quality, and efficiency are placing manufacturing steps such as deburring and edge rounding, as well as the production of precision surfaces, increasingly into focus in parts manufacturing. These processes require optimized and cost-effective procedures. Know-how, innovative solutions, and practical examples are offered by the 7th Deburring Technologies and Precision Surfaces Conference. Organized by fairXperts GmbH & Co. KG, the conference will take place for the first time in Lüdenscheid on November 22 and 23, 2018.

The requirements for the surfaces of precision parts vary depending on the product, application, and industry. Nevertheless, increasingly complex component geometries, hard-to-machine materials, new materials, and material combinations pose challenges for manufacturing companies. For example, burr-free components and parts with defined edges and rounding must be manufactured with ever higher precision. Surface refinements that minimize friction, wear, and noise development, as well as enable performance and lifespan improvements, are also in demand. High cost-effectiveness, productivity, and flexibility are required to remain competitive globally. All these factors make the use of demand-oriented, process-safe, and efficient procedures a necessity.

Know-how, innovations, and benchmark solutions

To this end, the 7th Deburring Technologies and Precision Surfaces Conference, held for the first time in Lüdenscheid on November 22 and 23, 2018, provides fundamentals, expert knowledge, and presents innovative solutions as well as practical examples.

The opening lecture informs about various deburring processes, their potentials, and limitations. An innovative solution for processing cutting edges after machining, stamping, and fine blanking is presented, as well as the path to industrial ultrasonic deburring. The possibilities of ECM deburring, PECM compared to sinker EDM, and the Flakkot process for achieving the highest precision in edge rounding are also discussed. Experience reports from thermal deburring and cryogenic deburring of plastic mold parts are included, along with presentations on influences, challenges, and solutions for mechanical deburring of bore intersections, as well as on grinding bodies and their application in lapping technology.

The conference also addresses the role of modern CAD/CAM software in today's production processes concerning deburring. Topics include robotic deburring of die-cast parts and burr prevention during the manufacturing of holes and 3D structures with dynamic ECM.

Options offering innovative developments, such as gear tooth edge processing, laser polishing, and laser edge refinement in sheet metal processing, as well as turning processes with overlaying auxiliary movements for creating functional surfaces for tribological applications, are discussed.

The last three lectures focus on fine surface finishing. This includes quality assurance in cleaning and deburring processes, finishing of ceramic components with diamond brushes, and the key features of the plasma polishing process.

The Deburring Technologies and Precision Surfaces Conference is aimed at specialists and managers from manufacturing, production planning, technology, process engineering, quality assurance, as well as development and design across various industrial sectors. The diverse program imparts the knowledge needed to design and control processes for deburring and manufacturing precision surfaces.

The accompanying exhibition offers companies the opportunity to present solutions and new developments targetedly and to exchange ideas directly with participants.
