The jury has decided: Six innovative developments related to materials handling in the field of plastics manufacturing and processing are nominated for the motan innovation award 2018. In July, the nominees will present their ideas in detail to the jury, and the award ceremony will take place in October during FAKUMA at the Dornier Museum in Friedrichshafen.

Bringing clever ideas out of the drawer and fully exploiting their potential – that is the philosophy of the motan innovation award (mia), which motan holding gmbh awards every two years. Among the numerous submissions, six innovations in materials handling particularly convinced the independent expert jury and reached the final round. The nominated project ideas include:

- an adaptive central vacuum control (Stefan Endres)
- a regulated conveying of bulk materials (Peter Haupt)
- a gravimetric, selective throughput detection with batch traceability (Reinhard Herro)
- local visualization and control on a mobile device (Phillip Mählmeyer)
- an efficient and highly flexible system for creating routes for material and vacuum lines (Bernd Michael)
- material-saving conveying in the vacuum area (Karl Wolfgang)

The decisive criteria for the four-member jury were: level of innovation, relevance for practical use in the plastics industry, as well as feasibility and market opportunities in the field of materials handling. All jury members are renowned experts in the field of plastics manufacturing and processing, possessing extensive theoretical and practical knowledge. In July, the six nominees will have the opportunity to present their ideas to this panel. The jury will announce who makes it to the winners' podium and how the prize money of 20,000 euros will be distributed among the finalists on October 18, 2018, during FAKUMA in Friedrichshafen. In addition to the prize money, the winners will receive support in patent application and in developing their invention towards market readiness.

The mia jury

- Prof. Dr. Martin Bastian has been director of the SKZ in Würzburg since 2006, Germany's largest plastics institute
- Dr.-Ing. Peter Faatz was a professor of plastics engineering and has been leading process development for plastics engineering at INA Schaeffler's plant since 2005
- Karl Miller started in 1987 as a Technical Sales Engineer at Colortronic and now leads motan-colortronic Ltd. in the UK
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Hopmann has been head of the Institute for Plastics Processing (IKV) in industry and craft at RWTH Aachen since April 2011
