Safety valves with significantly higher flow rates

Pressure relief valves protect production, transportation, and storage facilities in the chemical industry and process engineering from the dangers of excessive pressures. Thanks to an inline design, the IDV safety valve from Bormann & Neupert by BS&B offers up to three times higher capacity than a conventional API safety valve that meets the same regulations and standards.

Due to the increased flow capacity, engineers and operators are able to optimize their pressure safety systems and reduce the pipeline configuration size by one or more nominal sizes in many applications.

The design reduces weight, dimensions, and costs

Both connection flanges of the IDV valves – available according to ANSI/ASME B16.5 or DIN – have identical dimensions and are aligned. Installation can be carried out both horizontally and vertically, further increasing application flexibility. Additionally, the IDV valves are smaller and, depending on the diameter, up to 50 percent lighter than other designs. This allows safety systems to be designed more compactly, simply, and cost-effectively overall.

The fundamental operation of the IDV valves is similar to that of classic safety valves: When the set response pressure is reached, the spring-loaded valves reliably and precisely open the relief cross-section. After the process pressure drops to a non-critical level, they close automatically. The set pressure is independent of back pressure, making the valves very suitable for applications with variable back pressure. They are available in sizes from 1 to 10 inches and with response pressures from 15 to 500 psi (1.03 to 34.4 bar).

Even better with integrated rupture disc

The IDV safety valves can optionally be combined with an integrated rupture disc at the inlet or outlet, as well as at both connections. This combination offers additional advantages resulting from the valve's insulation against normal process conditions. These include optimal sealing, increased operating pressure, extended valve lifespan, reduced valve maintenance, improved corrosion resistance, reduced thermal footprint, and increased reliability.
