Medtec Europe is Europe's largest trade fair for the design and technology of medical equipment. From April 21 to 23, 2015, around 800 international exhibitors will gather at Messe Stuttgart. With theme pavilions covering areas such as Medical Packaging and Medical Plastics Technology, the packaging of medical products plays a central role. Among the exhibitors, Südpack Medica AG is also represented again this year. The subsidiary of Südpack Verpackungen GmbH & Co. KG informs industry visitors about focus topics such as cleanroom production at their own facility and customized, sterile packaging solutions.

Packaging for medical and pharmaceutical products must meet complex requirements to ensure safety and durability over defined periods. As a sterilization barrier system, it must prevent the ingress of microorganisms and enable the aseptic presentation of the product at the point of use. Controlled, certified cleanliness along the entire value chain is therefore essential for medical sterilization packaging. The cleanroom production at the company's site in Coulmer, France, will be one of the topics visitors can specifically inquire about at booth F 30. In Coulmer (France), Südpack Medica manufactures and prints pouches in cleanroom class 100,000 / ISO8 according to 14 644-1, as well as blister lids and storage containers in cleanroom class 10,000 / ISO7 according to 14 644-1. The site is also certified according to ISO 9001:2008, ISO NF EN 13 485 (2003), and since this year, also according to ISO 15378. The latter, thanks to a holistic approach regarding Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and quality requirements, represents the latest state of the art. Inside and outside the cleanrooms, continuous strict control ensures the quality of the products and raw materials.

Customer-specific packaging materials, state-of-the-art standards

With production sites in Coulmer and Ochsenhausen (Germany) and headquarters in Baar, Switzerland, Südpack Medica AG specializes in multilayer plastic films and pouches. The company develops and produces a wide range of packaging solutions for medical device manufacturers – from blister lid covers to peelable 3-edge seal pouches, flow wrap, printed or unprinted lids for blister trays, to roll stock for thermoforming applications. Visitors can expect a selection of this extensive range of medical films and sterilization packaging at the foil specialist's booth. "We have a broad portfolio of standard products," says Ingo Schnellenbach, Managing Director of Südpack Medica. "In addition, we guarantee consistently high quality and state-of-the-art safety standards in the manufacture of custom, individual packaging solutions – whether small, medium, or large series are desired."

Focus on individual requirements

Together with their customers, the developers at Südpack Medica AG determine the criteria that the packaging must meet. The shape, size, and material of the desired product are precisely defined and tailored to the individual requirements of the customers. For subsequent manufacturing, the company uses all common plastic materials, various types of medical paper, and Tyvek®, a special nonwoven fabric made of high-density polyethylene, both coated and uncoated. At the company's own development center in Ochsenhausen, the technical center, customers can already verify in advance whether a new packaging solution meets the desired requirements. They do not need to interrupt their own production processes at any time. Visitors to the booth can also learn about the various services offered by the technical center during Medtec Europe.
