ROMMELAG relies on the Life Sciences Alliance for S/4HANA and accompanying computer system validation
– Rommelag SE & Co. KG commissions the Life Sciences Alliance with the implementation of a validated SAP S/4HANA solution
– Representation of pharmaceutical process manufacturing and machinery construction in a harmonized and equally flexible system environment
– Implementation-related Computer System Validation (CSV) ensures compliance
The Life Sciences Alliance, led by All for One Group SE, a leading IT, consulting, and service provider, has been awarded a strategic transformation project at Rommelag SE & Co. KG. The family-owned company from Sulzbach-Laufen (Baden-Württemberg), specializing in innovative packaging solutions, is commissioning the partner network with the implementation of an SAP S/4HANA solution in two business areas and with computer system validation in the regulated environment of the pharmaceutical industry. With this project, Rommelag is setting the course for a future-proof IT landscape and simultaneously strengthening its competitiveness.
The 2,000-employee family business Rommelag is known for its innovative filling technology using the so-called Blow-Fill-Seal process. In the IT landscape, the hidden champion of the packaging industry is now also laying the foundation for the future: Rommelag has decided on SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud as its digital core. By the end of 2026, S/4HANA will replace the existing ERP system at Rommelag CDMO GmbH at two Rommelag locations. Additionally, the cloud solution will be newly implemented at the Swiss Rommelag CDMO Switzerland AG at one site.
Mechanical engineering meets pharma – an ERP for two worlds
The challenge: Rommelag combines two different business models under one roof: Rommelag Engineering develops highly innovative filling machines for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and chemical industries. Rommelag CDMO produces pharmaceutical products on these systems as contract manufacturing under the highest regulatory requirements.
“With SAP S/4HANA, we want to map the business processes of mechanical engineering and pharmaceutical process manufacturing in one system to realize synergies – for example, through shared master data management. At the same time, we need to optimally consider the specific requirements of our highly regulated pharma production without impairing efficiency in mechanical engineering. With the All for One Group as an expert in machinery and plant engineering on one side and the additional power of the Life Sciences Alliance with the DHC Group and KEK Application Systems GmbH on the other, we have strong partners by our side who understand both worlds and support us in shaping our digital future safely and efficiently,” explains Dr. Christian Liko, Director IT-BPA at Rommelag SE & Co. KG.
SAP S/4HANA implementation with integrated validation in process manufacturing
Due to the strict regulatory requirements in pharmaceutical process manufacturing, Rommelag must also carry out a Computer System Validation (CSV) alongside the ERP implementation. Rommelag relies on the consolidated expertise of the Life Sciences Alliance. The partner network has developed an integrated project approach, VITAL, which seamlessly incorporates system validation into the SAP S/4HANA rollout. SAP best practices and pre-configured solutions specifically tailored to the requirements of the pharmaceutical industry are used in this process.
“With the Life Sciences Alliance, we at Rommelag are not only providing a powerful SAP S/4HANA solution but also ensuring a smooth computer system validation. Our harmonized, consistent, and efficient approach avoids redundancies and errors in the project – and ensures that all compliance requirements are met,” says Thomas Hein, Senior Expert Industry & Business Development and Life Sciences Specialist at All for One.
