Roller screw drives impress in a variety of industrial applications with their high axial load capacity. They are preferred when pressing or stamping tasks are involved or when hydraulic drives need to be replaced. They are also used in metal or plastic processing plants, in robots, and in medical technology, for example in dosing systems.

The higher load capacities compared to ball screw drives result from the larger number of load-bearing contact surfaces. Roller screw drives require much less space for the same function, are more energy-efficient, and enable more effective position and speed control due to their high stiffness. High acceleration and repeat accuracy are also achieved over short travel distances.

Available in two designs

Rodriguez offers two different products: roller screw drives with satellite rollers – also known as planetary roller screw drives – and those with roller return guides. The former consist of a ground spindle and a threaded nut equipped with rollers. The spindle and nut have a multi-threaded profile with a flank angle of 90°. The satellite rollers are guided on both sides by gear wheels, keeping them axially parallel and spaced apart. This design of roller screw drives is available with and without pre-tensioning and can be equipped with dust covers made of polyamide.
In roller screw drives with roller return guides, rollers with grooves on their outer diameter are used instead of satellite rollers, arranged at a distance corresponding to the pitch. These screw drives offer small pitches at relatively large spindle diameters, achieving high positioning and repeat accuracy as well as high efficiency. Since the thread of the rollers has no pitch, the spindle pitch can be chosen even finer – up to 1 mm pitch at a 50 mm spindle diameter.
