The Reinraum Talk of Reinraumschmiede continues with Episode 7. Guest of host Timo Speck was Ina Henze-Ludwig, CEO of COLANDIS GmbH, which is a pioneer in this field with its rental cleanroom offering.

What is a rental cleanroom?

"Until now, customers always had to rent a fixed cleanroom," explains Ina Henze-Ludwig. "But that is so logistically complex that we developed a rental cleanroom that goes directly to the customer." It can be used in almost all industries that are temporarily dependent on a cleanroom or in case of emergency.

How is a rental cleanroom constructed and how does it work?

Henze-Ludwig draws a comparison here to the modular system of a large Swedish furniture manufacturer. "It is a aluminum profile plug-in system. At the back is the filter wall, which supplies the air. The closer you are to it, the cleaner the air cleanliness class. The entrance area can be used as a vestibule, keeping particles outside." The COLANDIS rental cleanroom can be assembled quickly and almost without tools at the customer's site and achieves an ISO 5 air cleanliness class. The comparison of the rental cleanroom to a garage with an open garage door, as mentioned by host Timo Speck, may seem unusual, but it quite accurately captures the essence of the concept.

What requirements does a customer need and how quickly can a rental cleanroom be obtained?

"Basically, only two separately protected power outlets, enough space, and a flat floor are needed," explains Henze-Ludwig. COLANDIS shows flexibility in the size of the rental cleanrooms. In the standard version, such a cleanroom is four meters wide and five meters long. Shorter or longer dimensions are possible up to 14 meters. Once a rental cleanroom is returned by the customer, it is almost immediately ready for use again. "It is possible to put a rental cleanroom into operation within 24 hours," says Henze-Ludwig.

A thorough cleanroom cleaning is definitely recommended before commissioning. Henze-Ludwig and Speck agree on this point.
