As a pioneer in cleanroom hygiene, Hydroflex always has one goal: to make cleanroom cleaning easier, better, and more efficient. The industry leaders have now achieved this once again. In developing the PurMop BLACK® Performance Line, they consistently focused on the users. The result is a unique cleanroom cleaning system made from the high-tech material carbon – and a revolution in cleanroom cleaning.

Important: What does this mean for the user?

Cleanroom cleaning systems have traditionally been made of stainless steel, aluminum, or plastic. This brings a range of different but relevant disadvantages. Plastic and aluminum systems are lightweight but do not meet the high requirements for purity, such as autoclaving, in the long term. Stainless steel systems are more robust but also significantly heavier. This primarily complicates the work of users and often leads to demotivation. Therefore, the PurMop BLACK® Performance Line was specifically developed to make cleanroom cleaning easier for users – and thus overall more efficient and faster. Hydroflex examined everything from material to design to functionality and questioned everything previously known. The result is impressive.

From space to the cleanroom

Heavy mop systems reduce the efficiency of cleanroom cleaning because they cause users to tire quickly – especially when cleaning walls and ceilings. The weight of the system was therefore a clear focus during development. However, structural changes alone did not provide the desired weight savings. That’s why Hydroflex specialists searched for a material that is equally lightweight, robust, and durable, and also suitable for the high demands of the cleanroom. The idea: carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. This has already revolutionized many fields from space travel to hip prostheses. Until now, there were no cleanroom cleaning systems made from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic – so the question arose whether the material is even suitable for this purpose.

Put to the test

Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, or simply carbon, is often used where components need to be lightweight but still stable and durable. In cleanroom cleaning, the material must do much more. For example, it must be resistant to aggressive cleaning agents: it must not be damaged, release particles, or become brittle even with prolonged contact. Another critical point is high thermal stability. This is necessary because cleaning systems for sterile areas are regularly sterilized in autoclaves at high temperatures. The material must not fatigue or show changes during this process.

Carbon: unbeatable in weight and stability

Carbon is a high-tech composite material. It consists of carbon fibers and a matrix made of special resins or thermoplastic plastics. Due to this multilayer structure, it is particularly lightweight and at the same time extremely load-bearing. The combination of fiber and matrix allows properties such as strength, stiffness, as well as chemical and thermal resistance to be precisely tailored to specific requirements in the cleanroom. After numerous testing rounds, it was clear: Hydroflex found an optimal mixture that also withstands long-term load tests without issue.

Visibly impressive – the new product design

The new, lightweight material was the first milestone on the way to the innovative PurMop BLACK® Performance Line. To further ease the workload for users, the cleaning system was completely redesigned in the second step. Several unique solutions were integrated, including the mop drop mechanism at the push of a button, a special corner cleaning function, and the next-level overhead cleaning. Last but not least, the system was designed to be modern and aesthetically appealing, thereby maximizing the appreciation of the cleanroom operator’s work.

Convincing in all cleanroom classes

As a result, the PurMop BLACK® Performance Line impresses users, cleanroom cleaning staff, and operators alike. Cleaning with a PurMop BLACK® system is demonstrably faster, more efficient, and safer, with better surface coverage and reduced fluid consumption. At the same time, the need for re-cleaning decreases, and flexibility in use increases. The system is suitable for all cleanroom classes and all cleaning applications, making it a true all-rounder.

Full sustainability

Alongside the PurMop BLACK® carbon mop system, new cleanroom mop covers have also been developed. In addition to an unprecedented surface coverage in the cleanroom, the new mop covers also raise sustainability to a new level: the first microfiber mops made from 100% rPET. Certified recycled yarn, mostly from post-consumer PET bottles, is used for the production of the cleanroom textiles. The new concept is rounded off with a recycling program.

The makers: Innovation leaders in cleanroom cleaning

Hydroflex is a leading manufacturer of highly specialized solutions for cleaning and disinfection in the cleanroom. With numerous innovations, the globally active company has repeatedly set new industry standards. Examples include the first touchless cleanroom cleaning system, PurMop® ERGO (2013), the PurMop® microfiber disposable mop (2015), and the time-saving PurMop® Ready-2-Use concept (2018). Now, Hydroflex presents the next milestone in cleanroom cleaning: the new PurMop BLACK® Performance Line.
