Production of silicon pressure sensors expanded
Endress+Hauser inaugurates expansion buildings in Stahnsdorf
Endress+Hauser has expanded its competence center for silicon pressure sensors in Stahnsdorf near Berlin for over twelve million euros. To meet the high demand for silicon pressure measurement technology, a new production hall was added to the existing building. Additionally, the expansion includes a new office and laboratory building, as well as a large outdoor area and parking lots.
Since 2009, Endress+Hauser has been represented in the Stahnsdorf Techno Park; in 2018, the specialist for measurement and automation technology consolidated the production of silicon pressure sensors there, which are also developed directly on site. The expansion increases the usable area at the site to nearly 11,000 square meters, doubling the previous size. Construction work was completed as early as 2019. The official inauguration was postponed due to the pandemic and was finally held on Friday, April 29, 2022, with customers, partners, and representatives from business and politics attending.
Long-standing Experience
"A lot of know-how is involved in the development and manufacturing of silicon sensors. Customers worldwide benefit from Endress+Hauser's many years of experience of the employees here at the site," says Matthias Altendorf, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group. The sensor elements manufactured in Stahnsdorf are important components for high-quality pressure measuring devices, which are installed at locations in Germany, the USA, China, India, and Brazil. The production takes place in cleanrooms that meet the highest standards.
Rapid Growth
In 2021, around 375,000 sensor elements were produced in Stahnsdorf. Five years earlier, it was less than half that number. Increasing production capacity also entails a corresponding need for personnel. "In 2017, we announced that we would double the number of employees at the site in the coming years. We have kept this promise: we have created and filled around 100 new positions, both in manufacturing and development," says Martin Laqua, site manager at Endress+Hauser in Stahnsdorf. "More people require more space. That’s why we not only expanded production but also added additional office and laboratory workstations, meeting rooms, and a staff restaurant."
Award-Winning Garden Area
More than 5,500 square meters of planting areas with 200 trees, as well as 5,000 shrubs and perennials, make up the company's outdoor area. The garden areas are called "Spreewald" and "Havelland" and serve as meeting and break areas. "We wanted to offer our employees and guests a green atmosphere, like in a park," says Peter Selders, Managing Director of Endress+Hauser Level+Pressure. This was also confirmed by the jury of the Brandenburg Garden Competition: the area, which deliberately features regional tree and shrub species, received the award for "most beautiful garden area in an industrial park" in 2021. The landscape architecture firm Marcel Adam, a local company, designed and implemented the project.
