The VACOM Vacuum Components & Measurement Technology GmbH in East Thuringia, Großlöbichau near Jena, plans to significantly expand its capacities in the coming years. Today, a first draft was presented at a press conference in Großlöbichau. Currently, managing partner Jens Bergner estimates a possible investment volume of up to a quarter of a billion euros. It includes the expansion of manufacturing halls and component cleaning, as well as logistics and office capacities. The number of employees is also expected to grow to a low four-digit figure.

"The markets we operate in — primarily the semiconductor industry — are currently growing rapidly. And we want to be prepared for that," says Jens Bergner.

At first glance, VACOM is tripling its site area on B7. Notably, there are three huge halls for manufacturing, component cleaning, and logistics, as well as a multifunctional tower. The concept also includes a park-like terrace, a botanical garden, and a pedestrian bridge that will connect the existing site with the new operational area. The architecture of the tower surprises with facade greening and an all-around winter garden serving as a thermal buffer for climate control.

VACOM continues to focus on sustainability and climate protection in its new investment project. Gas and fossil fuels will be avoided for operation. With photovoltaic systems, deep boreholes, and heat pumps, the company aims to generate environmentally neutral energy for use in future production. The architectural design was realized by IBA GmbH Jena.

Background

Over the past six years, the workforce has already doubled — now exceeding 400 employees. In parallel, the company has invested 40 million euros at the Großlöbichau site in recent years, around 6 million euros of which came from funding by the state of Thuringia. A new company-owned logistics center and a new Industry 4.0-standard production hall with fully automated intralogistics have been built.
