Detent pins very frequently assume safety-critical functions – but not only then is it important to receive feedback about their position. With the new series GN 817.6, Ganter now enables automated status monitoring.

A new detent pin? Yes and no: the new Ganter standard GN 817.6 offers the well-known basic functionality of a proven detent pin, but with the crucial addition of integrated sensor technology. This sensor transmits the position of the pin via an electrical signal – through a cable connection, ending in an M8 standard connector. Ganter deliberately chose the three-wire signal transmission via cable. This is safer, more stable, and above all easier to integrate in industrial environments than a wireless connection, which would be necessary to extend the battery maintenance interval without any status indication.

If the locking pin has moved two-thirds of the way back during operation, the sensor reports the correct locking: visually via an LED indicator on the sensor and in the form of a high signal over the cable to a downstream control or monitoring unit. The position indicator is a small permanent magnet in the detent pin and the sensor, which is particularly space-saving and can be inserted in any position using a clip beneath the black actuator button into the prepared ring groove. The user can freely determine the exit direction of the sensor cable by twisting, making it easy to adapt to the specific installation situation.

The detent pin is available with or without a locking lock in all common sizes from 4 to 16 millimeters pin diameter and thread sizes from M8 to M24 – thus suitable for all application scenarios. Thanks to the standard connection dimensions, replacing conventional detent pins is straightforward. All variants are made of stainless steel, as this material minimally shields the integrated magnet, thus preventing sensor interference.

The stainless steel detent pin GN 817.6 with electronic status monitoring is among the best in the Ganter product range. About 30 product series, including toggle handles with switching function, safety switch hinges, or electrical fill level monitoring, are offered along with the EPLAN macros necessary for documentation.
